I doubt youd be able to stop on it and once it gets torn up a puck wouldn't run very smoothly and i also imagine it would dull blades VERY quickley

But those are only guesses, i have never been on one before

depending on what kinda stuff you get, it really is very good. We have a local place called 5 hole sports in NC which has artificial ice and it skates very well. the puck slides very smooth and you can stop just like on ice. it takes a little to get used to and you have to warm up your blades before you do any crazy stuff on it, but after about an hour or so it should feel almost like ice and when you finaly go to play a game on real ice, you will fee much quicker

I live in Saint John NB, and they have a little artifical ice surface that Nolan MacDonalds runs for goalies. He trians them on the ice during the off season and a couple of my freinds go they say its harder to skate on meaning need more power in your legs but it make a huge difference. at first i thoguht well if they stop and dig into the ice wat happens but i guess you cant and when they come in to the shop i work at to get there skates sharpened they have this white powder liek on there blades which is the ice its pretty kool. they are also going to build a actual rink size one 15 minutes away from SJ and its going to be used for anyone who wants to use it im quiet excided to see it and try it.

trust me from experience the stuff is excellent for shooting and such

horrible for skating and stopping, turning etc

you cant dig inot it like on ice and after 2 sessions the edges are literally gone

and it does take a lot of getting used to

but its very easy to stop on since the blades to not catch as much the first couple times

How does the the artificial ice perform at cold temps? For instance, if the outside temp drops to freezing, does it still perform or is this stuff strickly for room temperature use?

Thanks.

Thanks.

The operation is not affected by severe frost nor by high summer temperatures. An outdoor INTERICE skating rink can be used all year long.

Check out the video clips on the website...

That dude needs to decide if he is a hockey player or a figure skater. I don't ever want to see someone do a spin like that in hockey skates again! :P

Have you seen the Olympic skater Ken Wuu in the Mighty Ducks movie? Kind of reminds me of him...

our rink has a shooting room with artificial ice...IMHO that's about all it is good for.

The artificial ice ruins your edges and causes your blades to get very hot, to the point that I was afraid they could possibly warp.

When my son goes into the shooting room I make him wear an old pair of skates or rentals.

Id suggest to goto a flatter hollow on your skate, so there is more contact with the 'ice' surface. Hence a better glide. Yeah it will take time getting used to, but who knows.

no that would be worse since you would have to re-sharpen your skates every session instead of every other session

and anyway the glide on any hollow is fine on the glice any way you slice it

It is ok

You can skate on it, but there is a fair amount of drag

I beats the pooh out of your blades. You really need a second set of cheap skates to use on it.

Mine is out in the barn where it is hot in the summer, and cold in the winter, and there is no effect. I did mount it in such a way as the sheets (around 15 x 25 feet) can expand and contract readily. It moves about 1/2 inch or so summer to winter.

I bought mine on ebay, spent around $1200 to buy it, and another $1400 hundred to ship it across country. It really would help if you bought some within driving distance. And it's heavy, you would need to rent a 2 ton truck!

You would have to be nutz, or filthy rich, to buy a rink with new synthetic ice.

It IS great for shooting, especially slap shots.

In the end, my kid just ended up using it for shooting and games with his buds WITH THEIR SNEAKERS ON. Skating, eventually, lost its novelty on it.

IF you are really going to skate on it a lot, I would probably recommend the solid stuff, not the stuff that is bonded to a plywood core, as you can refinish the surface a lot more times.

It does collect dirt/grit. You really can not put it outdoors for this reason.

It is excellent for stickhandling practice. Beats those phony balls anytime.

You need to hang a thick carpet away from the wall behind the net, or your neighbors will shoot you from all the noise!

It needs to be installed on top of a very flat surface, otherwise the edges of each panel stick up oddly.
