Recommended Posts

yeah'. i've had a pair for a couple of months...great gloves..i had gotten used to the snugger fit after wearing Bionic's for a while..another glove i like quite a bit along with the HGT,

the all black with the Silver XV looks good to boot...along with the R2, it has to be one of the best deals on the mkt..

I agree. I have a pair of all black XX's and if I had to do it again I'd buy (and probably will later) a pair of XV's first. They fit just as well and I actually like the palm a little better on the XV, though the XX do keep your hands very cool.

There's just no way to justify the extra $60 you pay for the XX's when the XVs are so good.

I bought a pair about 2 months ago, and they didn't take but a couple of uses to break in. The cuff is extremely unrestrictive, and the fingers are very lose and very comfortable. If you like them fitting a bit more snugly you can keep the top pad in, but if you want an even loser fit you can take it out. The adjustable cuff doesn't really do much in my opinion, so I just tuck that little flap over the other cuff to give me even more room. I played for 3 hours straight yesterday and they didn't get excessively soaked or heavy like some other gloves, which is very good. I haven't had sore hands yet, so the glove is very protective, and if you look around hard enough you can find 'em for about $80 which is an incredible deal. I would have liked to get the all black pair, but they didn't have them so I got the black and white ones. The look of the gloves is pretty unique, its still growing on me, but I think it is one of the best fitting and most unrestrictive gloves in the market right now. The XX's are definetly not worth the overcharge, as the XV's are a bit lighter and don't have that goofy palm.

I've only tried them on at the store and the XV felt nicer to me than the XX. I only tried them on in a store for 5 minutes each, so take that for what it's worth.

How do you guys find the Dri-Fit gussets for durability (e.g. holes developing yet)? And on the XX where bottom of the fingers are also Dri-Fit material, do you find the sweat soaks through to the outside and makes your grip more slippery, or affect your stickhandling/shooting?

Dri-Fit/flex grip whatever they call it, actually seems to have better durability than nash/standard palm. I've used mine pretty consistantly for several games now and there is absolutely NO wear on the dri-fit stuff. It looks brand new, no fraying or anything, which surprised me.

As far as the grip, for me it seems that they grip better when you're sweating in them than just when you try them on off-ice. I thought the material would be a problem but it really doesn't seem that way. What you have to get used to is the way the gloves feel on the inside of the palm. Initially feels like the stick is slipping but it's really not, it's your hands on the inside of the palm.

I sweat through nash palms during a game as well, so I don't really notice a difference...

tried them on the other day and they feel like pillows on the tops of my hands. What I didn't like about the older vapor 10s were that the seems on the fingers bothered my knuckles. I currently wear z-airs and the fit is a bit snugger. I don't really see much of a point to the adjustable cuff but either way, this glove looks pretty good.

I finally caved in and bought a pair of XVs today. They were going for $119 CDN at at local store, which seems fair consider another store was selling them for $149. I'm not ready to retire my Warp Zeros yet, however the XVs are the closest fit I've found to the Zeros, at least at the fingers (i.e. they open pretty easy). They will hopefully make a good 2nd glove for when I don't have time to completely dry out the Zeros, which will be almost every weekend this summer (I play 1.5h on Fri. followed by 2h Sun. nights).

Thanks to everyone who posted their opinions.

My rink got a few pair of these in, and for $80, they seem like a real good deal.

For half the price of the new Eagles, they are a good deal.

Ok, I may have jumped the gun with the XVs. I tried stickhandling a ball in the house with them on yesterday. I'm finding the pinky finger a bit short and too stiff compared to the pretty loose ring and middle fingers. It's not such a big deal on the lower hand, but I didn't get the grip I wanted with my top hand. The side padding that lines the pinky seems a bit stiff, and it's not really shaped to easily flex or hinge (3 rectangular segments sewn beside each other as opposed to triangles).

Now, I guess I can try breaking them in to see if this padding will soften up, but I have little experience with doing so and have no idea how long it might take. Any pointers on how I could accelerate the process would be helpful. My other option is to return the XVs since I haven't played a game with them yet (still brand new).

5 minutes of sweating in them will do the trick just fine...

If you want instant gratification just rinse your hand in water and put them in the glove to "simulate" a decent sweat, I believe you'll notice a difference right away.

my friend used baseball glove conditioner on his gloves and they are so easy to move in. that will loosen them up real fast.

good grief don't do that... the xv's palms are synthetic, it would be a real mess. Just wear them for a practice, it should do just fine.

something like an oil or baseball conditioner should only be used on real leather if necissary, it's not made for synthetics (nash, etc.).

It's not the palm that I'm having problems with, it feels good. It's the protective liner padding on the side of the pinky finger. Sweat might have a problem breaking that down since it's fairly thick and on the side. And it's only the middle segment on one hand that I have issues with. I think I like the way the gloves feel otherwise, so I'll see what a repair shop might be able to do.

After 48 hours, your gloves don't dry? It sounds like you need to find a less humid place with better natural air circulation to dry your equipment, or buy a fan to force the air to circulate.

Don't worry, the gloves will break in during the first game. They felt a bit weird to me as well when I first put them on, but after wearing them for a couple of games I was amazed. Don't return a great pair of gloves, you will love them once you wear them!!

It's the nature of summer hockey in Eastern Ontario: hot and humid. The fan's a good idea regardless as my garage could use some air flow, and I don't like putting on wet gloves. I'll probably do the same for my skates once it gets really hot next month before they get really soaked.

Alrighty, I've decided to give the XVs a spin tomorrow and see how it goes. Thanks for the reassurance, everyone.
