Unintentional baking!

Recommended Posts

Just a FYI, had a customer come in today to have a holder replaced. Seems he skated at lunchtime. As soon as he stepped on the ice, his skate gave out. After further inspection, the rear pillar of his holder was literally melted and folded almost in half. Seems he left his skates in the bed of his pickup under a black vinyl tonneau cover. I'm guessing the temps got pretty high in there. The outside temp was 96. So, just a caution, if you will be leaving your equipment inside your car during the heatwave, you may want to let them cool down before skating on them.

Well then, good thing I stuck my shiney new Kors inside my dad's AC'd cab unlike the bed which I had thought of doing. That would be scary as hell to happen, not to mention it could mess up your ankle.

Yeah, we have to be careful here in AZ...cant say i've seen that happen but in 110 degree + heat i'm sure that can happen easily.

Ya, its been over 119 the past month or so over here in saudi

Got up to low 70's here in Maritime Canada today with 88% humidity. Right now at 9:23 pm it's 68, foggy as heck, and 94% humidity.

You people should come out some summer and enjoy :P

Where abouts in the Maritimes are you located? We've had it nice here in Halifax.

Jimmy sorry to hijack the thread, but i got a customer here in the uk, who has went through 3 lightspeed holders due to the rear post folding and giving away.

Bear in mind here in the UK it tends to get a bit cold from time to time (not at the mo as we are having a bit of a heat wave around 31 o c). Anyway this happend in the colder time of the winter Jan/Feb time.

Have you come across this problems before?

Thanks

I've never seen this before. It had to be real hot. Although all day, everyone who brought in skates for sharpening had some real hot skates coming out of their trunks. Today was really hotter than norm for us.

Doesn't that gauge measure engine temperature, not ambient temperature ? Your gauge is showing more than 60 degrees F, which according to this is greater than the hottest temperature ever recorded.

EDIT: My mistake, I didn't see the right temperature readout.

that's gotta be a ford just guessing by how the gages look.

yeah that's 60C water temp in the engine... 110F is the outside air temperature.

when i first saw that pic, i thought you were complaining about having to pay for 1/2 tank of gas...

thats a lesson for you kids, always carry your skates INSIDE the car. i've noticed that the foams in hockey gear smell nasty when hot, besides nothing is nastier than putting on a hot pair of gloves.

Here in the southwest (Las Vegas) I don't even like to keep gear inside a car if the car is going to be sitting for awhile. When it's 110 or 115 outside the inside of the car is like an oven, I've read wear they say the temperature inside our cars can be 140 (on a mild 105 degree day) up to 190 (on a 115 day). That's about as hot as a skate baking oven. Some days skates do feel a little more pliable to put on....at least we don't have to worry about our gear being wet for long...

Sometimes that isn't an option. I have a pickup truck and can't really fit my gear bag in the cab of the truck. I have a fiberglass tonneau cover on my truck and the temp can get pretty hot, luckily I normally play at night and my gear wont sit in my truck for more than a couple hours(at night).

Possibly another reason to buy the shockdoctor bag? The circulated air would help keep temperatures down.

I like to keep my boots nice and warm (no where near baking temps), but they tend to wrap around my feet better when I strap them on warm, especially during the winter months.
