Robbery/Bad Neighbours

Recommended Posts

I was home alone for 2 weeks starting on July 1st. When I came home from a party last friday, I noticed that someone had been in my house, lights were on and my video camera bag was on the table, with no video camera inside. Down the street, there was a cop car parked at the school on patrol. I asked them to come in and investigate. It was late and I was drunk, so the only things that we could tell we're missing were the video camera and my iPod.

The next day I noticed alot more stuff was missing. The total count was 3 iPods, 1 Video Camera, 1 Laptop, 1 Cell Phone, 13 Bottles of wine, my debit card, 2 packs of gum and a box of condoms. They also took my propane tank from my BBQ and put it on my front lawn(why?). A buddy of mine was talking to another guy who had heard about the robbery. This is where the story gets hazy, because my freind refuses to tell me details about what happend for his own protection I guess. But he managed to hang out with the robbers, or the guys who had my stuff. He was forced to do some E with them, but he got my laptop, camcorder and cell phone back.(Amazing freind)

Because of how we got some stuff back, we don't exactly want to call the cops. But, we know that the people who broke in live on my street. They are always around, whenever we pass by them, they smirk at us. To be honest, they have turned our street into a ghetto, ruined evreything. How do we A) Bust them up, get them away from our house B ) Get them to stop ghettoizing our street.

We are currently considering moving as we hate the situation and these people. But obviously it is a last resort.

Um, call the cops. I'm no legal expert but why would it matter if your friend dropped E with them? That doesn't take away from the fact that they stole your stuff. The longer you wait, the less likely it is you'll get your stuff back. I realize your friend is worried about getting busted for doing drugs, but what evidence is there that he did them? The word of the guys who stole your stuff?

In thinking about it, they probably made your friend do E as a sort of insurance plan. They thought they could blackmail him into not turning them in, because they probably figured he was catching on. They probably did something similar to that other friend of yours who won't tell you shit. I'd say if you don't want to call the cops (which you definitely should), all out turf war. Win one for the families.

Beg your buddy to at least give the police an "Anonomous" tip so you can try and get them busted.

When we found out people were going through our garden and in our garage an thing me and a couple of mates set some little traps, like nails on walls broken glass and things we also put vandal grease under a few door handles to try and get some idea of where they were targeting and maybe get some prints, i'd say i would have got some satisfaction if i found blood on the glass or nails but in the UK the laws are all messed up

Eg. If a man comes on to your property and you attack him in some cases you can be charged with assault.

If a guy is on your roof and falls through and gets injured he can sue you

Just things like that really annoy me it's like theres almost nothing you can do, but you could also try talking to your neighbours as very often they will have seen suspicious behaviour of their neighbours

As far as i know you can not be charged with previous use of drugs like even if you have video of it i don't think theres anything that can be done behsides it should be out of his system

I definitely disagree. You call the cops, have your buddy testify that they told him they stole the stuff and saw the stolen property in their house. Cops issue search warrant, go in house, find property (and probably drugs), arrest guys. Guys get prosecuted and go to jail. Did you file a police report the next day? If you didn't that might have f'ed things up.

I don't know where he lives so the laws vary from state to state, province to province. I'd just assume that using a drug like that, even if proven, wouldn't worth the time for the DA to prosecute him for. Even if he did, I bet 99% of the time they'd drop the charges if he agreed to testify against the neighbors.

It's not the drug part that I'm worried about, it's my freinds own safety. Im assuming the deal he made was that, he threatned to call the cops if they didn't give back some stuff. So they gave it back. Im just worried that if the cops are involved now that his safety may be jeopardized.

Edit: Also, we didn't report the additional stuff stolen. The police didn't find obvious proof of break and entry(I believe they came in the back door, which may have been unlocked(my fault) so because of the lack of evidence they put the house on a suspicion report, not that of a break and entry.

I'd still go to the cops. Tell them exactly this. They'll work with you and your friend so he doesn't get busted. I don't see any other option if you want this shit to stop. If they steal from you once and get away with it, whats stopping them from doing it again?

They'd have to be retarded to do it again. They capitalized on the fact that my parents are gone. We have a security system now, so that will offer some more protection. It just frustrates me that I feel indirectly threatened whenever I go outside the house.

Petty criminals aren't smart. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but I really feel like they'll target you again. Maybe they won't break into your house, but something else could happen. I know I wouldn't risk it.

It's not worth a direct confrontation if you ever think they'll see you on your own, thats one of the reasons people hang round in gangs for protection.

Just wondering, did you get the stuff back on insurance?

Just call the cops.. dont take it into your own hands cuz you will get in as much trouble as they do.

Heres some stuff to remember :)

-You cant get arrested for doing drugs.. You can get arrested for having them in your possession or selling.

-You retaliate with your "big friends" and they will retaliate with their big friends.. its never going to end.

If you call the cops and they dont do anything, thats when you have some fun.. just remember to do what you can legally FIRST.

Heres an idea...but it would take a little luck to work.

Get your buddy whose "in" with them to convince them to do it again. Hide your video camera somewhere hidden. Have your buddy take these guys in the house and they'll prolly steal some stuff. Then youve got your proof. And you can look out for your buddy when the cops take them all in. Maybe it wont work. Im sure you guys could butcher up that plan pretty easily. :P

I am in a similar situtation as you. A while back we got robbed of $750 in Tv's and dvds. The neighbors all around the block were getting their cars jacked into at night. I know your feeling, pissed off cause your neighborhood is attracting theifs.

But try that video tape idea, we did.

The stuff we got back from a buddy who had a way in. We didn't consider the insurance company because we are missing $950 worth in iPods. My mom explained it breifly me to me, but it wouldn't be worth it aparetly because its a $500 deductable. My mom said to buy a new one with my own cash(which I don't have). So much for saving up for a car.

That may not be such a good idea. By the way he decribes his hood he might get shot for doing that.

Personally, I would be quite suspect of my "freind"

Sounds like he had an inside line on the house.

If you choose to retaliate, make sure it is clean where nothing can be traced to you.......Read a book called "Get Even"
