Shock Doctor Gravity Mouthguard

Recommended Posts

sure i guess.

i'll try and remember to take some tonight and post them.

in the mean time you can get an idea of what they look like @ opro.com too.

I got the heavy/clear for $55

I checked their page. When i go the custom route, i will do it with my dentist because its way too much stress to get yourself a "copy" of the teeth and send it to them and stuff.

Thanks, im looking forward to see a pic.

i don't have dental insurance w/ work. So i went with this.

It was easy, they send you a kit with some putty and mold tray. It took maybe 15 minutes to make the mold. Then i just sent it back in the pre-labeled box and a couple weeks later the guard came came.

The "stress" you go through to get the mouthpiece, is the exact same ordeal you have to go through when you have to have your teeth crowned, and molded when you get knocked with a stick....

my brother lost 6 teeth in the front, broke the top bone in his face, going all the way up to his nose... all playing non-competitive shinny. The Dentist said "If you had just gone through all this hassle before hand to get a mouthpiece made, this would not have happened"

Yeah, you are right, no doubt about it, but when id go custom i would let my dentist do this stuff like making a mold, giving it to the lab and all this stuff. I actually worked as a dental technican (building prosthesis, crowns and other stuff which belongs there) but i dont have access to the materials, otherwise i could do it myself.

sorry i forgot about it last night. Went to the gym, after that it slipped my mind. We were having internet problems anyway.

I'll try and remember as i get my gear together tonight before my game.

Hopefully our service is working correctly too.

I use one and love it. Much easier to breathe, get water, talk, and shout. Seems to be a more durable and thicker mouthpiece for concussion prevention than the cheap boil and bite ones.

I do use a full cage, so I only have the guard for concussion/TMJ. I probably wouldn't recommend it if you use a visor or nothing.

i had one for a while and loved it. i was a little skeptical(sp??) at first but after the first few times it was money. i usually loose/chew through around two mouthguards in a season but this one lasted for almost the entire year. i was gonna get another one but the LHS didn't have em in stock.

Customs from a dental tech worked great for my son this year-he's a 'chewer' and $29 Shock Drs lasted 6 weeks tops. East of Toronto there's 2 dental techs that set up at tournies, do kids impression mold right there and guards ready in 2 weeks. $35 for one type and $50 for a better one, the $50 lasted 3 months so far and looks perfect, not chewed.

I have a gladiator pro from customguards.com. I think it's basically the same as opro above - they send you a kit, you make a couple of molds, send it back to them, 2 weeks later they send you a custom mouthguard. It's a great mouthguard - it just sucks right onto my teeth. Fit is perfect, so I don't chew it or gag on it. Breathing and speaking is fine.

My understanding is that customguards and opro are equivalent to what you'd get from the dentist - they are basically the labs where dentists have to send their molds anyway, so you're just eliminating the middleman and doing it direct with the lab. Not sure if that's completely true, but that's what I've heard.

I've had a couple of shock doctors, and they just don't compare. The customguard is easily one of the best gear purchases I've made.
