can a stick flex vary from stick to stick. I had a SL grip 85 paired with Z-carb blade fired rocked.broke on a slashing, had it repaired SRS, but i lost 1 inch so it was different for sure.i had to cut the shaft to fit a end plug to get it back to the same lenght

Long story short, I bought 3 Sl shaft 85 with the same blade and same lenght. and my shot isn't as good as it used to be.

Now,could it be because the shaft is 48 inch and have a plug of 3 inch, or flex vary from stick to stick. My first stick was a cut-off blade but without plug,

i am 5'7 and 150 pounds, and am using a junior stick 50 flex, I surely can feel the bend when I do the wrist shot, I don't do a lot of slap shots, besides I don't do it well either.. so I like the way it is now except junior sticks has a small blade <_<

I'm 5'9" and pushing 155-160 depending on how much time I spend in the gym. I'm using an Inno of unknown stiffness and am looking at my first OPS. Is ~85 flex the rule of thumb, were I an average hockey player?

If there aren't any numbers on the outside (or inside) of the inno telling you what the flex is, 85 is probably a good place to start.

Just to throw my $0.02 in:- I'm 5'10" 145lbs and I recently switched to a Warrior 70 flex intermediate from a Easton Senior 85 flex and so far, it has been an excellent change.

Prior to that, it had just never occured to me that I could switch down to intermediate when I found senior flexes too stiff.

I think its odd that as I have gotten taller and heavier, my sticks have become shorter and softer. At 12 y.o. I was using an uncut aluminum shaft w/endplug. I am now ~250lbs and have settled on an 87 flex cut down 2". Go figure.

actually I would recommend buying a cheaper shaft or a woodie with a lower flex and work on getting the stick flexing(without just bending it into the ground/ice). It will help you with your shot later on if you are shooting right.

The reason I got the aluminum shaft was to try different blade patterns to see what was right for me. I figured the stiff flex would be good for pulling my big ass off of the ice. :P In all seriousness, I wanted to do my best to ensure durability with a stiffer flex. I do have decent speed on my shot and think my form is o.k. for a beginner due to the amount of different sports I participated in that require a lot of the same type of eye-hand coordination. Thanks for the information fellas.

Yeah, that's the way I started. Using a cheaper whippy stick helped my shot a lot. By the end of the lifetime of that shaft my hands had gotten so fast (from trying to get it to flex without putting it into the ground) that a simple wrist shot would get the stick to flex 5+ inches.

P.S. Another thing I was doing was taking my woodie and placing my hands close together and taking a wrister. The closer you put your hands together the harder your wrist and hands have to work and it helped build more muscle where it needed to be. I still can take my woodie and shoot with my hands about 3" apart and shoot a better wrister than I could when I started(yeah, i sucked when I started, lol), it's pretty sweet. :P

hmmm i'm 5"6 130 pounds and i use 100 flex stealth cnt and 100 flex macdaddy. i cut off abt 5 inches off both sticks as i'm a forward. i can flex both sticks easily and wristing and slapping isn't a problem.. would going down to a whippier stick actually improve my load?

Size really doesn't matter when it comes to finding a stick it's all preference. 5'10 183lbs and I use a 110 flex. I have a friend who is 6'5 240lbs and uses a 75 flex. We both have very good shots.

5'11 260lbs

Depends on what I play. I like my Easton Ultralite 100 for d because I can load my slapshots and really power them in from the blueline.

Forward: 75 flex haro and 75 flex INTERMEDIATE Sherwood ops's.. I like to whip them in and can still get SOME power off a slapshot if I need to.

5'6 150 lbs and my best shot has been from a 8-5(80 flex) flyweight, I also have 75 flex synthesis and an int ST that I can shoot well with. I tried using a int R2xn10 that I bought off ebay and the first game I used it I shot rockets, now it seems it has gotten even whippier and I can't take slapshots with it.

I'm 5'8" @ 145-150 lb. I cut 3-4" off of my 85 flex Synergy II. I find it just stiff enough where stickhandling doesn't feel laggy, and the shaft flexes just enough on slap shots so that I'm not getting any harsh vibrations. If I feel the bad vibes, chances are the shaft is too stiff for me.

I've played with whippy sticks before and I guess my preference has changed over time. I'd probably use my R2 Whip more often if I took more wrist shots than snap shots, but that's my preference.

I find that TPS shafts tend to "break in" more than other brands. I have a pro stock OPS in S flex that feels more like a whip now.
