Sprung Hockey

Recommended Posts

And after our extensive testing of the earlier samples with the stiffer ride, we now know that we will be making a lighter durometer spring for skaters around 150 or less. The softer spring will allow lighter players more action and control of the full function of the suspension.

Keith for those of us who have the older model will there be any way for us to get these softer springs and will they fit in the old frame?

Three questions for ya:

1. A guy I skate with is interested in these frames but he's afraid that they won't work well for him because he's 250 pounds. Is there anyone here that is about that weight that can give your experience with the frames?

2. Will the new improved model come in black? I love the black look of my current sprungs and I really hate the white look.

3. Can you add something on the order sight to let us order just the rockers in the different colors.

1) He should get the new model which is much stronger than the closeout model. There's at least two players 240 or above on the forum with em. Gives me the heebee geebees thinking of them on the frames, though. I have a bud on them for a year now that's over 250 and he breaks rockers from time to time in crashes. Sometimes he cracks them that way and his weight finishes them off. We're putting the new ones on him first thing for REAL TESTING.

2) The new ones will only come in white, but you can dye them black with Ritt dye. You can dye them any color they have dye for. Works perfect!!

3) We were going to set up rocker only purchases, but never got around to it. I'm actually counting the rocker arms we have left so I'll know when to stop selling the old model. Have to have extra parts to service all the frames already out there. Can't make new ones cause the moulds got changed.

And there is a way to soften your springs. I used to do it by drilling a small (1/8" or less) hole through them lengthwise. You have to take the frames apart and drill the springs on a drill press while you hold them with visegrips or something like that. A little tricky but works.

You can actually do it without taking them apart, but if you miss you drill the frame. Has to be lined up perfectly.

Just to remind everybody again, if you bought the closeout model you get 15% off the price of the new model. If it's a pre-order, you get 15% off the $100 tag. If you wait for reg sales of the new model, you get 15% off the $120 retail price.

Guys, I have also been waiting for the new Sprung frames to come out due to my size, I'm over 240 pounds so I thought I would wait on the new heavier model. I did however find some info you guys might find interesting. .........

I have decided to mount my Sprungs, when they are avaliable to a set of new late 1990's model CCM 652 Super Tacks. The skates have dark gold colored graphics (CCM, Tacks, 652) on the black leather trims and a black Pro Lite 3 blade. I thought it would look really cool when I remove the ice blades if the base part of the Sprung frame was black, like some of the older models and had gold colored rockers to match the graphics on the boot so this might be the ticket.........

Check out www.ritdye.com and go to Custom Color Recipes. They have recipes to mix any color of dye you want. Its pretty cool. I plan to give it a try when the new frames are on the market.

Thanks for the info on the Ritt dye. Will this stuff also dye other things like ice hockey holders well? Also Keith thanks for the tip on softening up the springs in my frames. I think I am going to have to try it.

I'm at 245 right now, and so far they are holding up alright, granted i've only skated on them 4 times. I did get taken into the boards feet first pretty hard once already, and I cringed a bit, but they came out okay. I may have to look into getting a couple extra black rocker arms.

On a side note, just to mention my impressions of the frame, I noticed the smoothness and the quick cross overs immediately, but now after skating on them three times, I'm convinced. I don't notice any difference in speed coming from the hummer chasis, but I have much better mobility. It really does feel much closer to ice than any other frame I've used.

About using Rit Dye on an ice blade holder...........

Sprungster has said that the Rit Dye works with the Sprung frame parts but I dont know how it would work on a white TUUK or a white Pro Lite ice blade holder. It seems like it would work ok unless the plastics are not the same and for some reason wont take the dye.

Kieth, I had a question about the new chassis. You had said the new one will not share the same rocker in the back. My question is will the new chassis have the #2 wheel lower than the rest, and then wheels will be flat on the floor when weight is applied? Thanks.

Just a question for other sprung users. I've noticed the the front wheel on both of my skates does not always make contact with the floor. When I am just standing up straight, they don't touch. If I am turning or stopping they do, but I don't feel like I have full traction all the time.

Actually when you're standing up straight all wheels are on the ground. If you move your weight to your heels your front wheel will come up. Same for the rear if you move your weight to your toes. That's why the turning radius is so much shorter than a reg frame. You're only turning on the wheels touching the ground. That's why they feel like ice skates.

If you put the skate down on a flat surface and push down with your hand you'll find that it only takes about 1-2 lbs of pressure to flatten all the wheels. Anybody who weighs over two lbs has all wheels on the ground. You're inside the suspension.

This is not like rockering on a rigid frame at all. It goes away and is totally insignificant in the performance of the frames.

And it's not there in the new ones, which are testing out even better than all previous versions. Better performance. Better everything!

I'm behind on shipping, guys.

I had a busy and enjoyable three days down in San Diego testing the new frames, got back Sunday night, and went in for a little surgery yesterday.

The beloved wife is typing as I dictate from my bed of pain.

She promises to hit the post office for me today, though, and some European packages are in the mix.

I'm recovered enough to skate around tomorrow with my stick. Like MSH, I'm doing better but not done with it yet.

If anyone wants to repost, feel free, cause there were some good ones that went into the either.

Go MSH, go!!

That's good to hear Keith.

Anyways, I'll repost my impressions on the Sprung chassis. I am extremely happy with it. Skating on it feels so smooth. I'm only 130 lbs but I can feel the suspension kicking in when I turn or skate backwards. I'm not an expert, but I have a feeling that the suspension absorbs the outward force when I turn. This allows for much tighter turns while keeping the same speed. Basically, the suspension helps me to head into the desired direction.

Here's a pic of my skates (CCM 692 size 7.5 with medium frame [current closeout model]):

It's T Rex time. We are now the top of the food chain!

We've tested the newest version of the frames on some of our hardest critics (including some very picky pro players). The feedback from them, and everybody that's always loved them, is 100% positive. Personally, these are the best thing I've ever had on my feet. We have a very noticeable improvement in every aspect of performance. And durability is no longer going to be an issue. This doesn't mean that somebody out there won't break them, because hockey players can and will break anything. But probably less than any aluminum frame out there.

We're getting the next shipment this week and I'm sending out the pre-orders from those. So the pre-order sale officially ends Friday. After that they're $119.

Some of the pre-orders are guys that also bought the old model, so we can look forward to hearing their reaction on the forum as soon as they're mounted. Since they're already familiar with the old ones, it'll only takes two or three minutes to blow their minds with the new ones.

I've almost finished the drawings for the large size and will be starting on the small when the large is in production. Since the medium is the problem solver, I didn't want to finish the large until I was ready to transfer it's attributes into the large.

My PM box is filling up so fast it's hard to use, so if you want to reach me it's OK to email me at keith@sprung-inline.com

Beyond that all I can say is CHOMP CHOMP!

so are some of those hardest critics, including the pro players going to switch to the sprung frames?

Yes, they did already. And One of them was one of our own pros who is REALLY HARD TO PLEASE!!! He can tell you how many wrinkles there are in a pea under 45 mattresses.

what was some of there comments and reactions to the frame?

First of all, these are guys that have been on the closeout model and even earlier versions, and weren't happy. Then they were on the beta version of the new model from our old manufacturing company and mould, and thought it was Way Better, but still not happy.

So now they say things like "these are fantastic". But the real comments about the performance are, "A tremendous increase in stability, agility, predictability, speed and cornering. All over better performance than all of the versions before." The best comment for me was, "Great job, I'm getting these mounted right now." And that's been the unanimous impression.

These are the exact same things that were said by all of our guys (and girls) that have been loving all versions of them for a year or more.

For cold calls that were never on any version before, the comment has been, "Expletive!! Expletive, Expletive Unbelievable!!! When are they available. Can I give you a check right now?"

All they have to do now is outlast your boots.

we can order these off the website right keith?

i'd like to try the new model as i've fallen in love with the ones you sent me.

Yeah, and you get the 15% discount as a repeat customer. But if you want to get in on the early shipping you have to do it quick, cause this is a small shipment.

The second they get to me I'll check them out throughly and post if they're OK to send out to our early birds.
