Sprung Hockey

Recommended Posts

The wheels are Hyper Pro 150 outdoor wheels and the Tacks are a size 10. I'm not that fired up with the looks of the wheels but I got two sets, one set for Hi/Lo and this set which are 76mm at a local sporting goods store at a closeout price. I figured since I play on blacktop in the summer why spend money on wheels that are going to get burned up anyway. I would like to get some Rink Rats for next winters indoor league.

Rick I recommend getting a slightly harder wheel with Rink Rat when you play indoors with these. I use a 78a wheel and they grip like crazy, love the sprungs.

man that frame looks small

Do you have about a 1/4" sticking out front and rear? Looks like a good mount and the right size. These boots use a medium frame, and below are some medium frame wheelbases. Unless you go to a large, Sprungs are the best length for 9.5s and 10s. 10s might be the real crossover line as to how much wheel you want showing. And the amount of wheel overhang is also influenced by wheel sizes, such as 72s in front and 80s in back. This doesn't change the wheelbase, which is what you're skating on.

The max size changover size thing is relative to the boot company.

The Sprungs have a 9 9/16" wheelbase.

A medium TriD has a 9 9/32" wheelbase.

A Mission cut and stamped Hi-Lo is 9 1/8"

A CCM Externo Hi-Lo is 9 3/16"

The Tuuk Shock Rocker I have may be a large, cause it's 10 1/8"

Yeah, we play on a super smooth concrete surface and I really don't know what wheel would be the best. Most of the guys use really soft wheels like Labeda x-soft or something 74A. I ended up using Hyper 76A Formula G's on the back and Hyper Wicked Glass 78A's on the front on my hi/lo setup but that was just because I had them laying around.

Keith,

I just re-measured and I have exactly 1 inch of sole overhang at the rear of the frame (at the center line) and 1 1/4 inch of sole overhang at the front of the frame at the center line. If I understood the mounting instructions correctly this should be right on.

How much are the frames, and what hardware will I need? I am thinking of converting an old pair of VSi's. I'm sure I can have them mounted here. What's the wheel set-up on them?

- Still having issues PMing you Sprungster

OK everybody, my PM box is empty and ready for stuffing again B)

$119. The only hardware you'll need is floating spacers for 8mm axles. They're straight 76s like the OG Suregrips. You can buy them at sprung-inline.com

What size VSi? Nothing bigger than 11s or 11.5s I hope.

I had a pair from '97 that came with the Suregrip fame. They ended up as goalie skates with my aluminum aggro prototypes using 59mm wheels. After years of hard service they felldownanddied. My first roller hockey skates.

my son matt wants to play ice hockey for his school team,he is 16 yrs old.he has ice skated before but not alot less than 3 times for last year, anyway since matt skates with sprungs i had a feeling the sprungs might help with his stride and some skateing.once he got used to his edges, you could see his skating start coming together, half an hour into practice his skating looked very good.he will now be going from inline to ice and back to inline,im sure the sprungs are going to help out his ice skating.

Assuming the pitch and balance are perfect, IYO which would be a better (new) Sprung frame, 76/80 like the Vanguard or all 80 like the Hum'er?

i would like to see what a 76-76-80-80 set up would feel like,i think the frames are pretty sick the way they are right now.would there be a performance up grade?anyone for a test drive?

76-76-80-80 frame like the vanguard would probably be better. Think the all 80 will be too longish for the sprung set-up, + you would have to dremel your boot to make the front 80's fit on a boot.

I'd also like to try the 76-76-80-80 setup. In some ways I think it would even be an easier transition. Also, I'm down for being a tester if the chance comes up. ;).

I've been off the Hilo frames for some time, and using the sprungs has improved my stopping and turning quite a fair bit (still cant do super high speed crossovers going left). IMHO, I'd prefer the sprungs now, however I think I would be able to adapt to Hilos again pretty quick.

Only one I havent really tried is all 80mm like the hummer. I've done all 76, all 72s before, and dont really like it... the sprungs have changed that.

keith, you looking for some design changes???

you could probably design the chassis so 80mm wheels would fit any boot without carving out the bottom, also all 76mm and 80mm couldnt be that much of a difference in performance, but going with a 76/80 set up might make a performance tweek in the chassis.

Mission's patent does cover the 76-80. I'm not sure of how exactly it was worded, but it covers a "dual plane" frame.

all 80's without dremeling would make for a rather tall frame, resulting in decreased stability, especially with a Sprung setup, where extra space is needed for the springs to compress.

Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us! The Bauers are size 8 and the RBKs are 9.5s. We're going to start doing custom orders like these. As long as we can get the boots.

And we'll have first samples of the large frame around the beginning of July.

I love those Reeboks Keith. The silver wheels are a nice touch. Are you guys able to get the boots from the factory with the chassis already removed? Or are they from the factory having never been mounted/without holes in the sole?
