I'd like to keep people in out own country working as well as profits stay in America. Funny how that goes really...Did you know that the Big 3's trucks are being mfg'd in Mexico, while Toyota has a plant somewhere in the mid-west (forgot exactly what state)?Saying that you're supporting American industry is almost laughable. However, I agree with you 100%, and dislike that I need to have jap-crap for a car because I can't afford something I want... toyota factory is in Kentucky. they ship all of the car parts to be assembled there. Check out the insurance costs before you buy a car - especially if you have to pay the insurance yourself!! For a young male driver the type of car can mean a range of insurance from $2,000 to $6,000 per year (Canada). DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 fyi: Ford Trucks are assembled in the US (SuperDuty plant in Illinois, i believe). Things such as engines and transmissions are assembled elsewhere (Canada/Mexico).Honda/Toyota/Nissan is probably the way to go. Other Japanese carmakers either aren't as reliable, have expensive parts, or both. I'd definitely stay away from Mazdas and Mitsubishis, as they tend to have issues with oil leaks and burnt seals around 80,000 miles and beyond. It doesn't make a lot of sense to but an acura, lexus, or infiniti unless they're a bargain, seeing as they are actually hondas, toyotas, and nissans in disguise, and generally cost a lot more. Europen car parts are expensive, although volkswagens (pre-1998) are pretty darn reliable. In the late 90's they ran into issues with reliability. American cars are not known for having great 4cylinder engines, but the Focus and cavaliers seem to be pretty solid. Plus side to an american car is you can get parts very cheap. If you can afford it, and you can trust a mechanic, bring him along to check out any car before you buy it, unless you are confident with your abilities to properly asses the condition of the vehicle. Just bcause it looks pretty doesn't mean it runs pretty. When buying a used car, it doesn't matter where it was originally made, none of the money you're paying is going to the manufacturer, and unless you buy parts/service from the dealer, neither is the money from that. Yes its an old persons car lol but im buying from my dad for cheap and it only has 70,000 miles on it and maybe with some new rims it will look alot better.
