Scottish Maple Leaf 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2006 I am travelling to Orlando, Florida in early September for a vacation. As I live in the UK hockey equipment here is really expensive. I normally go to Toronto early January but a couple of friends have asked if I can get them some stuff whilst in the U.S. in Sep. In particular I am looking for a pair of Bauer One 90 skates. Does anyone know of any good hockey shops in the Orlando/Tampa area? I will be staying in a villa so should know the address beforehand. Would I be able to order gear from a website & have it delivered whilst I'm there (only there for 2 weeks).Any help appreciated. :D
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted July 28, 2006 Theres a large shop in orlando, in tampa all we have is pro shops and the best one is in brandon(south of tampa). I'd recommend finding the orlando one, I'm sure someone on here knows which one i'm talking about.

thenizzle 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 haha wow I bought one of my first ops at rdv when I took a camp there about 4 years ago. I got a nice b.stuart vector 100 50 flex there, and never used it because I got big and needed a 75 before I got to it. Man, those were the days. By the way RDV is SICK. they have a nasty gym and i believe the magic practice there
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 If that is the case, you've met me.
thenizzle 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 yeah i was just thinking that. By the way, where's your shop now? Im trying to remember if its Detroit or Chicago or something else. But at any rate, I'm an instructor at a hockey camp called Greg Carter and I went to Chicago for two weeks this month, and was at Jerry's, Gunzo's, and the pro shop at the center ice of dupage. That area is great.
WBGMike 2 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Just Hockey www.justhockey.com it is run by former pro David Goverde he is located in Cassleberry
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 I didn't stop by Goverde's shop...drove by it when I was home two wks ago. Heard that he doesn't have much if you are not a goalie.

Heard that he doesn't have much if you are not a goalie. he has quite a bit of player stuff, but when you walk into the shop it looks more like a goalie store because of the one wall
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 I wish him and Greg all the best, I really do...but it's too small of a market. He's got Easton so that should help him out a tad
WBGMike 2 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 he has easton, Mission, THE Hockey company and Eagle and others
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted August 1, 2006 Yes, but RDV doesn't have Easton, so that is why I said it would help him out a bit. The goalies will go there but that is probably the extent of it. Look at the history of standalone shops in Orlando - they all failed miserably.
Scottish Maple Leaf 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 Well I am just back from Orlando and am pretty disapointed.I went to the RDV first. It was an hours drive. The selection was pretty poor. They only had a few pairs of gloves & very small selection of leg guards & shorts. I asked for some help but the assistant just said "have a look round, if you don't see it then we don't have it" Thanks very much!I then drove to Just Hockey. Despite it saying on the web & the shop door that they are open saturdays it was closed! I went there about noon. I could see in & it didn't look as though they had very much at all. Really odd place for a hockey shop too. How it can make money there I do not know.So I have come back to Scotland with nothing. Next time I go I will probably buy online then get it delivered to where I am staying. :(
JR Boucicaut 3810 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. RDV's shop has really deteriorated since I left - it's quite sad, actually. Who was working there? What did he look like?Yeah, JH's location isn't the greatest. My parents live 10 minutes from there.
Scottish Maple Leaf 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2006 There were 3 people working there. One guy was fitting a girl for skates but the guy I spoke to was late teens I think. Just didn't seem interested at all. Real pity as I was looking forward to picking up some gear. I have been to Toronto a few times & the last time i got skates from Source for Sports on Don Mills. The service there was superb. Will just have to wait now until I get back to Toronto. Thanks for everyone's suggestions anyway.
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted September 28, 2006 that sucks. I'm glad I haven't made the trip up there yet, I have been wanting to head up there to check it out for like a year.
