So What's The Deal With Tackla?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for your opinions folks. Is Tackla really the best hockey pant in the market as far as protection, mobility and fit? Are they bulky? Is there another manufacturer that produces pants that exceed Tackla in protection, mobility and fit at a cheaper price? BTW, I'm not too concerned with price. I'm willing to pay extra for quality equipment. Anyway, this post is now open. B)

I dont know if they are really the lightest and mobile pants. If your aiming in that direction you should check out Bauer's MBP line. They require a shell and are alot like a roller girdle but they are extremely light. If you want more protection you will want to go with a reg. girdle like Tackla, which might be bulkier.

Tackla isn't the lightest, but they are very protective and fairly light for the amount of padding they provide. Others may be lighter, allow for slightly better mobility or have improved protection in some area but they are the best ccombination of all three in my opinion. I absolutely love my 9000s.

Hey Chadd was Tackla your first choice when you were shopping?

Not really, I only tried them on because I had some free time that day. I was planning to get another pair of Missions but after trying everything on I liked the feel of the 9000s more than anything else.

Thats funny because I'm also looking at Mission for pants. I know this should be on another post but what was the fit like for you with Mission? Does it offer more protection or less? Are they bulky?

I loved my M1s. They took a little while to break in, but they were very comfy and handled the abuse I threw at them pretty well. It all depends on what you're comparing when it comes to the pants, the L7 and 9000 are the closest in terms of price and in my mind the 9000 is a better pant. The L7 feels a lot heavier. The L5 is probably the best value in that price range.

I'm 6-1 230lbs, any pant I wear that offers any kind of protection is going to seem at least a little bulky. The biggest advantage of the Mission pants is the ability to adjust the length. Though you can order the Tacklas in a "tall" size if you need a longer length.

I think the best part of Tackla is that you know you're getting a good product. They've been making really good pants longer then anyone. Other companies try newer things, for better or worse, but Tackla is always a safe bet. And they hold up extremely well.

Actually, one of our members (killthe poodle) had an issue with his Tacklas.

i aws gonna buy nike quest 2s but i went with tacklas because of teh way they hug my hips. Great padding, awesome mobility imo but the only thing bad wtih tackla is their pant shell rips easily.

I find Tacklas lack in mobility.  I like my 6k's just fine.

Isn't Rbk more like girdles than pants?

Yeah, but it's still a pant.

I had a pair of Tacklas four or five years ago. I paid top $ for them and they literally fell apart within a year. Now I tell everyone who asks to stay away from them.

RBK = great pants for mobility, not so much protection, great for rec hockey

Tackla = much better for higher end hockey in which the protection is needed

I disagree my 8Ks have amazing protection and I don't play rec hockey.

Yea im going to have to disagree with you Shane_e_19, i recently swithced from Tackla to an rbk pant and i feel the rbk pants offer the same, if not better mobility than Tacklas and offer more protection and they are very convenient as you can adjust the thigh padding to fit you perfectly. They both are very good hockey pants but I feel the rbks offer better protection and equal if not better comfort/mobility.
