Kovalchuk?

He's right...and I've had this discussion with CM in my store - Brodeur is a product of his system. Put me in net behind that defense and I can win a Vezina.

Okay, you guys can have a goalie who has never won anything, ever. I'll take the three time Stanley Cup winner. You must be the same guys who would take Peyton Manning over Tom Brady.

Replacing one of, if not the best goalie in the world with a guy who peaked three seasons ago (while playing with one of the best players in the world, period) is not an even trade in terms of the team.  Bertuzzi will probably get 30 goals and 60 points this year.  Luongo will have 30 wins this year.  Which is more important to the team?  I like Bertuzzi, too.  You just can't compare him and Luongo (who isn't overrated at all), even when Bert was in his prime.

First of all Martin Brodeur is the best goalie in the world. Followed by Miika Kiprusoff. Secondly, Dan Cloutier had three straight 30-win season in Vancouver, people in VAN will be expecting a 40-win season from Luongo, which I know he won't do. I'd probably take Luongo over Bertuzzi straight up but I still think that Roberto is very overatted.

lolllll Patrick Roy ;)

Not to jump into the goalie discussion here, BUT

Kovalchuk does not care about winning, losing, the Atlanta Thrashers. Kovalchuk cares about money, and scoring more goals than anyone.

Dont believe me?

Holds out at the begining of the season for more money. Gets it, and puts up 3rd most goals in the league (right?). After Heatley scores 4 goals in one game, Kovalchuk scores 4 a week later. When asked, Kovalchuk responds "I saw Dany Heatley got 4 goals...". Kovalchuck only cares about getting his cash and scoring HIS goals to be #1 goal scorer. Thats why, he is rated as a perrinial rocket richard winner, not a franchise winger.

Zach

Yea but at least it show that HE can score. IF Ribeiro(since everybody dont like him, i like to watch him oh well) or whatever player say to himselft i'm going to score 2 goal today , I don,t think they will

I've got lot of respect for kovalchuk for beeing THAT SKILLED. I don't know a lot of player who can score 4 goal even if they want to lol!

Why would I consider a guy who is retired.

Agreed you can take the who puts up stats but I would take the guy you know can carry you through the playoffs and win you some championships

I don't know much about the NFL, but from a hockey perspective I'll take the guy who has far more talent than the guy who was blessed with a great supporting cast.

good point but Brodeur is a solid goalie he puts up numbers he obviously has talent and he has the rings Luongo is solid but doesnt have the rings..... NFL Manning has a supporting cast while he cant do anything in the playoffs and last year Tom Brady single handedly carried his team i would trust the goalie who has the rings and you can trust will come up big in the big game

Okay you said the best goaler in the world, but he is still alive so IMO the best goaler is still Roy.But it also make sens to just talk about goaler that are active..

Kovalchuk has tons of skill, but he reminds me alot of Kovalev. HUGE potential, yet, they choose when to use it. It must be frustrating coaching those guys that are so one dimensional and selfish.

100% agree. but i think kovalchuk has way more skill than kovalev!(and myselft when writing the reply i thougth about kovy!) Maybe it is only because he is younger so he have more energy but still...

Brodeur is overrated. He's been protected for years. He can come up big, but he isn't the unbeatable force he is made out to be. When both are on, give me Luongo. When both are "off", I'd still take Luongo. Under pressure Luongo is a relative unknown, but in the few chances he's gotten, he hasn't faltered. Brodeur is very good, but I think Luongo has played better in recent international tournaments.

I think Luongo can stop wraparounds too.

Yeah Kovalchuk is selfish, his nose bleeds when he's in the defensive zone, he wants lots of money, etc etc...I'll deal with all that with a smile on my face if he's scoring 50goals a year for my team.

Just a random thought...I'd love to see Kovalchuk and Ovechkin on a line together.

I agree with you willc even if he wont play much D he is such a threat in the offensive zone he is nice to have

Ovechkin and Kovalchuk would be great to see on the same line to haha

They weren't on the same line, and both of them play the left side.....I'd rather see both of them with a playmaker, as they both tend to rely on flying up the ice themselves.

I was thinking of a Russian to put at Center for the playmaker, but I couldn't think of one offhand.

If one of them switched to the RW, a dream line could be something along the idea of Ovechkin-Thornton-Kovalchuk

It'll never happen, but that'd be great to watch from the red line in

Nope. Ovechkin played with Yashin and Vic Kozlov.
