With all the great players that retired this year : Mario Lemieux, Brett Hull, Mark Messier, Scott Stevens, Al MacInnis, Ron Francis, Dave Andreychuk, Luc Robitaille, Dominik Hasek and Steve Yzerman which four get in the hall of fame in there first year?

personnelly i would think that messier, lemieux, yzerman and one of either hull or hasek will be.

now with the lockout and all i'm not sure who is counted for which year.

Yzerman, Hull, Luc, Francis, Mess and Hasek are all sure things. Stevens, MacInnis, and Andreychuk all have good chances, but I don't think are guaranteed.

Yzerman and Messier are equal. Robitaille is above MacInnis if only for being the highest scoring LW in history.

Yzerman and Messier are equal.

They're both great players, but I don't think it's even close between the two.

Messier retired second in scoring while Yzerman was sixth, albeit in less seasons. However, Messier had twice as many PIM and was undoubtedly the true enforcer of his teams -- not the goon, but the enforcer. He scored better that a PPG in the playoffs, whereas Yzerman was just below a PPG. Most importantly, however, is the Stanley Cups: 6 to 3.

Again, they both are all-time greats, but I think Messier would win if only one could go in.

I doubt that 4 of them will be in on their first ballot. I can't remember any year where all the inductees were in their first year of eligability. Odds are it'll be Messier and Stevie Y and then 2 guys who have been waiting a while.
