Pro Stock Pants

Recommended Posts

Hi I am in the market for some new pants. I liked my girdle until I had problems with my hip getting hurt, and now I would like to buy some pants that will protect my hip. If possible I would like to get red pants so I don't need to buy a shell. East West Hockey has Columbus Blue Jackets pro return pants but they are $145. Is it really worth paying that rather than say $100. I realize that they are pro stock so they will be top level protection, but can I get anything that is close to the same in protection a little less in price???

Thanks in advance,

Travis

If you're a size L they also have the sher wood pro stocks. They're ccm clones so they should have as much protection at a way cheaper price ($79).

If your going to spend that kind of $$$ get some Tackla 9000's. You wont be sorry.

I love my 9000s too, but I do not have the latest model which is the 9000 ACS. I only wish they had two belts and no laces, like the 5000 Pro.

$145 for pro stock is good IF the pants fit. At some point there is a tradeoff between protection and weight. I believe the 9000s balance these competing qualities perfectly. My brother picked up a brand new pair of CCM pants from his former college where he played DI. I believe they are pro stock, but there is literally too much protection; they weigh significantly more than my 9000s. He needs to take a knife to them to make them usable for men's league.

I am not trying to be rude but, You really dont want to be "that guy" that shows up to hockey with an nhl team pant. A few guys around here shwo up to pick up hockey with ranger pants and they get busted on pretty bad. Just something you need to think about when buying them. However if you get the blueJackets i dont think anyone would notice seeing hoe they have no team logo on the pant. Well just trying to give another perspective on the "nhl stock gear". Good luck and good shopping!

This is what annoys me in a way.

People who buy pro stock Pants for the added protection, or buy kit for better fit or whatever get hassle from other people theyre playing against, Just for wanting better protection. Hopefully, anyone who has this happen to them has the moves to dangle these idiots and make them look stupid.

I agree completely. I hate that people get jealous or whatever because someone that's "not as good as them" has a better stick or better gloves. It's their money and if they want to buy something nice for themselves... who cares? I know I don't.

More expensive gear out there should not be a problem for a competitor. It's how you train and play that matters, gear can only be a negligible advantage as you only NEED the right fit.

I love my 5000s. Picked up a pair of Ohio State (I live in Columbus) PRs and they've worked very well for me. I think it was worth it, and I can almost say that between those and my gloves are the two best pieces of equipment that I own.

I absolutely love my CCM pro pants, and I don't give 2 craps about what other people think when I show up to play in them. I live in the city where the logo fits in. There are alot of people around here with the same ones, so I don't really stand out all that much.

One thing to be careful about - I tried on some new Bauer pro pants where I got my CCM pro pants and felt like they were VERY heavy. They even had PE covered padding between where your cup would be and the hip pads. Way overkill for my level of play, and unless you're in the NHL probably overkill for your level too. This may be something to think about prior to ordering the Bauers from EWH.

I do highly suggest pro pants, especially for hip padding. I had trouble with that myself in my previous pants and have not had problems since I got the pro pants. They really are awesome, but can be heavy depending on which ones you get.

Hope this helps...

Sorry for bringing this topic back again, but I have a couple more questions. :D

If pro stock pants are basically over kill in protection (paraphrasing replies), what would be the best deal for me? I have come to the conclusion that anything will be better than my girdle, but I think the best hip protection will be in Tackla 9000 or bauer pro return. If these are my two BEST options I would go with the Pro Return simply because of the colors.

If I do go the pro return route, the sizing may be a problem. I wear 36 waist jeans, but they are fairly loose around the hips. I will most likely lose weight once I start hockey again, but not garunteed. Would a 36-38" pant be too big for me if i lose weight? It will be an inch or so at the most. The large might be the answer in the length area because at 6' I do need a large in length, but if im going to be swimming in the waist its not worth it.

thanks

you would probably want your pants to fit you better length wise for protection purposes, i mean if there a little big waist wise then get a pair of suspenders. It's better to have the protection and get used to the paint being a bit big than not have the protection especially if your playing a high level of hockey. from the way you describe your size you sound just a bit smaller than me. I'm 6'1" 220 lbs and 36-38" waist. and i wear an XL pant so it sounds like the large is the way to go.

Its going to be College Club hockey so it's not too high of level of hockey, but my hip can swell just hitting the boards myself trying to keep a puck in the zone.

thanks for all the responses, any more insights, or pant recomendations are welcome.

Can I get the fury's customized individually? It doesn't really matter if I can't but it would be cool.

no, team orders only

Got a lower end pair of these:

http://www.furyhockey.ca/pants.html

They're great. Tackla type pant without the price tag. All the full features - zippers, stretch gussets in all the right places, conforming thigh pads, snug fit around the hips....

There's a reason they fit like a Tackla and the Canadian made version of the 2007 was in the same price range as a 9000 the last time I checked

Oops. I meant I got a deal from someone. But I still might have a lead....

I like the Fury bit they're overpriced at retail. They may cost as much as a 9000 but they shouldn't.
