Thinking about new skates

Recommended Posts

I'm in a Graf 703 right now. The skate fits perfectly, but they aren't all that comfortable. My feet are pretty sore by the time I am taking them off.

Any thoughts on a comfortable skate that fits like a 703? I wouldn't mind a deeper boot. A taller toe box would be nice.

I read the review on the Vector Pros. Do they fit like a 703?

What Bauer 8090's?

thanks in advance.

Obligitory: Go to your LHS, try some on, then buy them.

Aye, that's the plan. I trust the guys at my LHS and plan on buying from them.

I thought I would ask for some opinions from this vast knowledge base. I don't get to hear input from company reps like I do here.

Ditto. Nothing beats trying them on. However, you can quickly narrow down the brand you need. Narrow feet = Bauer. Medium = Easton or Mission Fat Feet (like me) = CCM. The Graf skates come in various widths, the 703 being the narrowest. The next widest is 705 followed by 709. Of course, it's tough to find a store that has all three models in your size to try on. As for the 8090s, they are wide for Bauers, but not as wide as the CCMs. The Vectors, of course, are wide but not as wide as the Tacks line. Now, is everything perfectly clear?

Bauer 8090's are great skates if you can get some that are your size. But it's hard as hell to find any, I looked for a good month before I got my XXX's.

And the winner is.... RBK 8k. Nice skate and a pretty good deal at $250.00 US.

I liked the Vectors but they were pinching the side of my foot.

Cool, just making sure you weren't going to buy online and circumvent your LHS. Too many threads like that around here.

Glad you got a skate that fits (excellent skate at that), at a damn good price.

I think that's an oxymoron. You know like:

Working Holiday

Freezer Burn

etc.

As mentioned in another thread......

the Toe caps are the same in all RBK/CCM skates.

the mid foot is as follows.

Wide RBK

Med Vector

Narrow/Med CCM

HEEL

RBK wide

Vector med

CCM narrow.

Well yeah, but not really.

They are pretty much molded to my foot (perfect fit), but the insides are hard as rock (uncomfortable).
