Anyone used this tape?

Recommended Posts

Friction tape in my opinion makes it a bit easier to shoot high and maybe to recieve passes. I use it on ice but I'm considering stopping using it because I use cloth tape in roller and have to adjust to ice because the effort I would use to roof it with the same curve in roller leaves me with a shot off the netting in ice(and in my mind this has more to do with the tape than in the playing surface :P ).

In my opinion...the friction tape really is only any good if you retape your stick every game or two. The stickiness on the outside wears off, and gets wet. I apply wax on my tape to make it last longer too so it kinda detracts from the whole goal of using friction tape.

I also use friction tape + wax, but after rubbing it on I take a heat gun to it briefly to melt the wax into the fabric. After a handful of skates the tape is still pretty sticky on the outside - it's still picking up cat hair and junk from my car trunk.

I am def feeling the puck better since switching back to cloth tape. I also have 6 goals in three games since switching back, after 2 in the first 12 games using friction tape. I gotta believe..............

Do we want to know why the cat was in your trunk in the first place?

IMO Friction tape isn't as durable and was always a pain for me, so I stayed away from it. It's got a lot of sticky glue on both sides and it can get all over your hands and whatnot. Also, it attracts dust (and pet hair) which not only takes away from the tackiness, but also makes your blade look horrible.

Agreed.

Lately I have been using a low threadcount generic sports tape. It feels grippier than conventional hockey tape and doesn't leave nasty goop all over your blade. I atest my palms lasting 3 seasons now without a tear from using that instead of abrasive hockey tape.

My friend uses friction tape for his grip and I can't stand it. I only use it for my blade... with this andover tape(instead of renfrew) the regular cloth tape is kinda tacky so I might start using that on my blade.

My advice is to try friction tape at least a couple times in pickup, see if you like it. I know plenty of people that love it and plenty that hate it. Try it out for yourself, it's all PP(and as opposed to most PP items in hockey this one will only cost you $3). :P

I also switched from friction to cloth tape. Friction tape feels thick on the blade, you don't get too much puck feel and it feels a lil' bit blade heavy.

I remember hearing good things about Jaybird

Jaybird is the shit. I re-tape my sticks after every game/practice, but I bet I could probably let Jaybird go for two, maybe three before it got too bad to use - I don't, but I probably could...That certainly isn't the case with any other tape I've tried - I usually end-up re-taping between shifts or periods.

Friction tape wouldn't last the whole 2 hour scrimmage on my blade. Really horrible stuff based on my experience. I switched back to cloth tape and was immediately satisfied.

Good luck whichever you decide to go with.

Thanks guys..well i will go with cloth and i think i will decide jaybird.

I prefer buying in lot(for a full season). these 2 seller have the same price. which is 24 jaybird roll for 50 or 28 roll (i choose between 9 color, which sound cool loll) for 50. but i prefer going for quality..

if you still have any advice! i will make my purchase monday.

May i ask a last question. since 1 month now i'm using some renfrew black cloth tape and i can't say it is bad, better than the ''blue renfrew tape'' that i know (mine is black).

Anyone used this tape?? is it comparable to the jay-bird one?

Thanks!

when you say blue and black, are you referring to the color of the tape, or to the color of the core (inside the hole) of the tape? If you're referring simply to the color of the tape itself, I use both white and black renfrew and they work fine for indoor roller, but aren't so durable when it comes to ice. (When I used wax it was better, but I've stopped using wax recently) I'm paranoid about stick wear, so I like to keep the whole bottom edge of my blades covered by a layer of tape, and have to retape after every ice time.

If you were referring to black core vs. blue core, the black core with gold writing is designed for composite sticks while the blue core with white writing is "regular" tape. I use the blue core renfrew.

Yeah I've used both the blue and black renfrew. The blue one isn't so good...wears pretty uick it seems and gets all tacky and is a pain to get rid of. But the black one is really good, and lasts for a long time. I think it's worth the few extra cents it costs over the regular.

Yes, I was referring to the inside of the tape. the one with gold writing!

Is there a place to buy renfrew tape in bundle?
