Bengalpredator 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 I'm looking at getting new skates and wanted to see what people thought were stiffest. I am coming from Vector 6.0 and would like a stiffer boot. It seams to me that my old Tacks 652's we alot stiffer and last a couple of extra years.
Fury of One 6 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 I picked up a pair of the new Vector 10s and they seem pretty stiff to me. I also have the 9K pumps and I think they're even stiffer than those. I don't know your price range but if you're willing to shell out the dough, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
chk hrd 164 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 I'm looking at getting new skates and wanted to see what people thought were stiffest. I am coming from Vector 6.0 and would like a stiffer boot. It seams to me that my old Tacks 652's we alot stiffer and last a couple of extra years. My 9k's are alot stiffer than my 652's. The 6.0's are about the same level as the 652's. IMO I thought the 6.0's were a little stiffer than the 652's because of the mesh and the way they are made. When I switched it to me some time to get comfortable because there was alot of difference in the boot. Just make sure that you really want a really stiff boot before getting one.

DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 My Mission L7s are stiff as a mother, but I'm coming off a well broken in pair of Vapor XXs. Can't say anything on how the stiffness holds up as I've only had them a month.

DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2006 My Mission L7s are stiff as a mother, but I'm coming off a well broken in pair of Vapor XXs. Can't say anything on how the stiffness holds up as I've only had them a month. What are the L7 comparable to? Im thinking of switching brands coming from nike's.. Pretty much everyone compares them to the CCM Vector and Bauer Vapor lines and I'd have to agree. Plasticy/composite(?) outer construction, (does anyone know what these things are made of) , lightweight (slightly lighter than my XXs), with pretty good protection so far, but I haven't taken any real zingers off of them yet. Other than that it's a pretty straightforward skate. Nothing too crazy or unique about it other than the Pitch holder. I've got them in an EE size, so I can't tell you too much about width, but they are probably about medium depth (a touch shallow for me, but I've gotten used to leaving the forefoot slightly looser than the rest of the skate. The stiffness bothered me a bit at first, but now that I've skated on them a few times andtey're starting to break in I'm used to it. I'm still experimenting with tying them differently to get more forward flex without lacebite. I got good deal on them, but they're worth the $200 they're going for nowadays, especially if you're looking for a stiff skate.

All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2006 I think that the CCM 1152's were the stiffest skates that I have ever used. But they are out of date and might be hard to find, and prolly considered heavy in todays standards.
moose77 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 If you can still find a pair of them in your size, Bauer 7000s were like vise grips on my ankles when I had a pair. I went into them from a pair of the old Canstar model Bauer 5000's and man they were stiff! I never really did get comfortable in them, so to speak and sold them for a good percentage of what I paid for them on eBay. I ended up finding a pair of new old stock (Nike-era) Bauer 5000's on clearance and went back to wearing those.
BGM 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 You can't get any stiffer than Bauer 7000's. I had to wear a gauze pad inside my socks on each ankle bone to keep them from getting irritated they were so stiff.
DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Thanks for the info, How does the L7's fit compared to Vectors or Vapors? I never wore Vectors, and it's hard to judge against the Vapors since I went from a D Width XX to an EE width L7. The 7 seems a bit shallower than the Vapor and It may just be my imagination, but I think it's slightly higher cut. My vapors seemed to wrap more around my foot, but The 7s aren't fully broken in yet. It also has a long tongue, which looked odd at first, but didn't really affect performance in any way. They've got a lacebite protector in the tongue which doubles as extra protection against slashes and shots, too. They also seem to have more padding in the ankle area, but again, that may be because the vapors were pretty broken down.
