Roach

Glove recommendation

Recommended Posts

Due to severe slashes to my bottom (right) hand, I was diagnosed with bone degradation and mild carpal tunnel syndrome. Has anyone else incurred this type of injury?

I currently wear Eagle 13" X70i gloves and am considering purchasing a new and more protective pair of gloves when I am given the go signal to get back on the ice. I have a recommendation from TBLfan (thanks for that!), but I would like to hear what everyone else has to say. Other things to note, I like my gloves tight-fitting.

Thanks in advance.

im not sure if they are tight fitting, but you may want to try the easton gloves with the extra wrist protection thing. they look very protective and might help somewhat.

Thanks, guys!

Chadd, what is the difference between the HGT and the HGT2? Which one is better?

HGT2 is the new version. The original retail had tapered fingers and fit a little more snugly. I thought the tapered fingers were great but I was in the minority.

I liked the feel of the tapered fingers too. More flexy.

Thanks, Chadd. So HGT with tapered fingers. I'll search for this via Google. Off the bat, do you have any places in mind that I can go straight to that still have stock of this?

Sounds good. Are these the gloves you're on now, badkitty?

Not really. If you happen to come across any 14-15" R2 gloves, let me know. Those are all but impossible to find other than one pair for $80 I saw on eBay. No plastic inserts on them, so you might want to avoid them yourself.

No. As Chadd said, they are hard to find. You may come across them at a LHS.. I remember seeing them a while back and trying them on. I didnt need new gloves so I brushed them off.

I've been surfing for a pair of HGT's for the past 3 hours and have yet to come across R2 gloves. With your description, it does sound like I'll stay far away as possible from em, but I will keep an eye out for them for you though.

Thanks!

Here's part of the pm I sent to Roach, if any of you guys disagree with anything please let him know since his ability to try on gloves is limited.

The protection(of one90 gloves) on the hand and fingers is great... BUT on the wrist, right on the nike/bauer logo there is a spot that isn't too protective. You can really feel the hits to that area. Personally, I wouldn't recommend them for you with your injury.

If you're looking for a light and protective glove I'd recommend looking into the TPS series of gloves that offers the "wrist strap" system. They're tighter than most gloves(not as tight as the one90s) and offer good protection.

I'm going to add that by talking a stick and giving myself a little hit on the gloves; I can't feel much on the hand and fingers but with the same force my wrist was really feeling it in that area(on the NBH logo). The area is also pretty sensitive being that it comes right below the wrists, if you have wrist problems I wouldn't recommend them for you without slash guards.

Which brings me to something I completely forgot about... If you find an area below the hand that doesn't give you enough protection you can always buy slash guards. Even though it adds bulk to have the guards in place, it would add protection to any glove.

The wrist strap system on the TPS gloves is like a wrist guard but is attached to the gloves. It's open on one side(it forms a "C" shape) so that the strap is loose and can move with the glove without restricting movement. At first I thought it was weird but after trying them on they quickly became one of my favorite gloves. Keep in mind that you can always remove the strap if you don't like it.

Hey Roach, try to make sure to get gloves with plastic inserts. The eagles didn't have those right? I use a pair of Koho Pro gloves with plastic and all my future gloves will have plastic protection!

Thanks again, TBLfan. If not for you, I wouldn't have thought of posting this as a topic.

The funny thing is I do wear slash guards - Eagles' at that which are far more than the Bauer slash guards I have - yes, I have 2 pairs (I only wear my Eagles' now).

I do test gloves via smashing a stick or shaft on the top of the hand, but I never thought I'd end up with something like this.

Thanks, sghockey21.

I was always under the impression that my Eagles' had plastic inserts. Now I'm not to sure. I'll have to get back to you on this.

I hope to see you in Malaysia next year. If I'm able to go that is. I missed this year.

Some of the new Eagles or pro stocks will have inserts, retail models prior to this year do not.

There's a few pairs of HGT's up on eBay right now. Tampa colors. I love my HGT's, and would highly recommend them (especially for the price).

I saw a pair of cable-knit HGTs at Pure Hockey in Marlboro, Mass. Maybe you could contact some one around there for them or call the store. I believe they were 13" and were in a clearance basket...
