jeffw 1 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Not a 'bad call' but this made me chuckle last game.Kid is carrying the puck up the left wing with speed. I'm back on D. I angle him towards the boards as he hits the blueline and sweep check the puck off his stick (no check beer league). He steps on my stick and crashes in a heap. I never touch him in any way.Dude gets up yelling for a roughing call. Ref shakes his head. I told him at the faceoff that I'd give him tripping but roughing? No way. At the end of the game he skipped the handshake line & went to the room (we won 14-2) B)
QandA 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 For the boys chirping the refs for putting the faceoff in the middle on a bad icing call, that's how it's done in Canada. I think it's the best and fairest way to do it as well. Refs aren't always idiots, and I'd rather have a faceoff at centre than in my own zone if I were the one shooting the puck down. jeffw 1 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 I pole checked a guy tonight and started to go the other way, all of sudden his stick comes down over my head and catches me on the bridge of the nose. The spurting blood blinded me and I went down, making a mess of my gloves and the ice. There was no call because, "he didn't mean to do it." I'm 6-1 and the guy who got me is 5-6.http://modsquadhockey.com/pics/chadd/cut2.jpgEdit for the picQuestion is, did you flinch?

lampliter87 8 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 I'm 6-1 and the guy who got me is 5-6.Ohhhh yes one of my personal favorites. I'm 6-1 as well and was always big/slightly awkward coming up. The fact that you're bigger than the majority of the other players draws big time attention and the "little guys" seem to be able to get away with some cheap stuff I know that I wouldn't. In USAH a high stick that draws blood is a major penalty. Game misconduct not required.Didn't realize we had one of these threads...Two weeks ago, beer league game. Opposition comes down on the left side, takes a shot, goalie gets a piece with his glove, hits the far (right) post, goes off into the right corner. It was called a goal. WTF? Learn2Physics?You can't argue with physics. Also, same game, same ref, blows icing on us when I shot the puck down when we were short handed. Dropped puck at center ice, but still...idiot ref.Not only did he mess up by blowing an icing, but he put the faceoff in the wrong place. When the linesman is errand in calling an icing the faceoff takes place in the end zone where the whistle was blown. In other words the faceoff should have taken place beside your opponents goalie. Also, same game: I chase down someone who is on a breakaway, get along side, lift his stick, he steps on my skate, falls. Tripping. Same ref.IMO you are only justified in questioning judgment calls when the ref is out of position. Was he in position? He was behind me, probably a good 50 feet away. Commando, but I'll have an old straight small back on the lid until a new one shows up. The old one has some scratches so I took it off and never got around to ordering a new one. He also got me in the eyebrow but I didn't feel that for a couple days because of the pain in my nose.
Bmplam 1 Report post Posted April 6, 2008 I was going around the net for a loose puck in the corner. Opponent along side me tried to pinch me off to the boards and lift my stick with his as we approached the puck. I stayed low, kept my line to the puck and pressured my stick on the ice so he couldn't lift it off. Refs arm goes up and I get 2 for interference. He said that I gained the advantage ... isn't that the objective, especially as I never made a play for the opponent, only for the puck? The other team jokingly heckled me to the box, knowing what an awful call it was.
Cole13 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2008 Wow there is sum pretty crappy calls posted lol... I had one this yr. agaisnt me which was prob the most B.S. call i have ever seen/ had called against me, i was going through the neutral zone and went around a guy but he stuck his knee out and we went knee on knee. We were both ok and we got up, i skated up behind him, hooked/slashed him on the shin pads and i was chirping him, and then he fell holding his gut, the reff was down in the other end where the play was and didnt see a thing, the player i hooked/slashed on the shin pads rolled around on the ice for almost 10 minutes holding his gut saying i "speared" him, so the reff kicked me out and on my way out i turned and looked at the oppostion bench and automatically got a one game ssupension for that, and i also got a 4 game suspension for "spearing",.....and just so everyone knows, as soon as i was off teh ice, there player was up, right to the bench, was on a shift about a mintue later skating and playing as well as he had been befor i "speared" him... so may ppl watching even from the other team couldnt beleive the call hahaha all i ca do is laugh now
Rustpot 1 Report post Posted April 7, 2008 Only 2 of my games this last season were called poorly, and by the same ref no less. His first glaring error was not disallowing a goal when one of their players was in the crease. Shot from the point goes in and I yell "ref, look at his foot! he's in the crease!" Well the guy was kinda confused and didn't even move, wondering what the fuss was, looked down and drooped from the shame of knowing he was in the crease. Goal counted, the ref never took a second look. He wasn't trying to interfere but ended up bumping into the goalie.Same game, an overhead dump to the boards. I lift my stick to try and give it a nudge so it won't land at the feet of the winger squared up to the boards in front of me. I get called for a highsticking, even though I missed the puck, since my stick was above my head (I tried to hit it with my shaft at about waist-high).I saw the ref at drop-in a week ago. I made sure he never got passed to in the slot when I was on the ice (and he was always hovering in the slot).
gxc999 7 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 More bad calls tonight, or to be more accurate, more bad no-calls. We had only one ref, when there are generally two. Anyway, this was the same ref I described in this very thread before and he didn't let me down. How many times did I get tripped down in or near the slot? I think I quit counting after three. After trip #2, I landed hard on my right hand/wrist which is swollen and sore now. I couldn't pass right and barely grip my stick with my right hand the remaining two periods. 2 other times I was skating to play a loose puck, idiot from the other team skates by and slashes my stick near the top, clean out of my hands, obviously nothing called there. One of my mates wasn't even aware this is a clear violation of USA Hockey rules, so I bet the ref didn't know either. The funny thing though is the ref didn't really call anything at all the whole night. I'd have preferred him to pop us both evenly for our transgressions. Keep in mind this is an inline league that doesn't allow fighting, so there are no consequences for dirty players who aren't penalized. My real complaint is that our league lets different players officiate at their convenience. No training is required and no compensation is given. How can they expect high quality refs to show up or even have officiating of modest quality?
mftiger1081 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2008 so i realize now this is in the wrong section...can a mod please move this?wondering if anyone has some good stories about horrible officiating. I don't think i've really met too many good refs in my time playing hockey. here's one that'll blow you're mind. coaching a kids team and the other team scores a goal that hits the net and bounces back out. neither ref signals goal or no goal and play continues for about 2 minutes. the refs then decide that they're going to call it a goal, even though they resumed play and had not made any call in the first place. USA Hockey rules state: "The Referee may not change the decision, or that of any other official, after the resumption of play following the rendering of the original decision." that's like going back and calling a penalty from 5 minutes ago that you didn't call at the time.what does everyone think about that? any other horror stories? chef_ducky 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2008 so the player catches it, puts it down and gets hit. meanwhile his teammate comes up and onetimes it into the net. goal is allowed even tho it was a CLEAR hand pass. we ended up losing 2-1 and suddenly our childhood dreams were erased. Two thoughts. If he put the puck down once he caught it, as you mentioned, that is not a hand pass, so clearly it should have counted. That is upseting you lost, but was MN State Tourney your childhood dream? NYR1982 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 I've been called for icing on a penalty kill which drove me insane because that's just a blatent error on the part of the ref. This ref for whatever reason felt he was right even though both benches were saying he was wrong. Later that same game, I was visibly slashed in the back of the leg while carrying the puck over the blue line. I say visibly cuz the ref was right there and winced and sighed after he saw the stick hit my leg. For whatever reason this jackass felt it wasn't painful enough and gave me a minor for unsportmanlike conduct (diving)!!!
