Euro 2004

Recommended Posts

As I'm writing this there's only about 5 hours left until kickoff for the Euro 2004 soccer tournament. Anyone here gonna follow it? I don't know if it's broadcasted in North America, but if not, you can always get updated on their official website below.

Being Swedish I'm of course a bit biased towards Sweden, but I think either Spain or France will win this tournament, but we'll see, there are many good teams out there.

Yes I'm following it. Go Russia!... just kidding. There are at least 6 teams good enough to win the tournament.

That was a great game between France and England a real nail biter. Zidane is an amazing player, it was the first time I really notice his play(since I've been a soccer fan for about 2 years) and he is incredible.

The only top-level soccer shown regularly on US tv is the World Cup and the Champions League.

Live European competition is always on PPV (Euro, Premier League). Fox Sports World shows tape-delayed games though.

There is a fan base in the US that would watch the games, but is there a Cable network with the stones to show them???

TSN and CBC are great for world class soccer broadcasts. Hell, even Sportsnet shows live regular season games from top level teams.

Fantastic game today though. Barthez knew Beckham's tendencies, considering they played together in Man U. So I don't think the save was that special.

Funny, Beck's has no problem scoring off the pitch

To be fair they did show a small clip on SportsCenter...

Of course they did. No football, no hockey and only one NHL game, they'll take any filler they can find. They showed a lot more LPGA highlights than they did of the France comeback.

Fuckin' France!!! Didn't expect to win anyway but it was gutting..

I think France are the strongest team, but i fancy Spain or Holland. The game against Germany should indicate if the Dutch can actually play as a team for once and not fall out with each other. Sweden were very impressive yesterday and may be the dark horse. All hail Henrik Larsson!

The reason they show the games in Canada could have something to do with the multicultural backround and descent of many of the Canadian people, as oppose to the "Melting Pot" of the U.S. (Geography Exam Tomorrow)

that melting pot includes Hispanic and Italian descendants. i think they are just as connected when it comes to football as the Canadian cultural background.
