Just a little scrum, and after the ref was startin to break it up Forsberg gave Crosby a little bit of a butt-end to the face.. Not very classy on his part, but he didn't get any penalty for it sooo, whatever I guess.

Didn't hear too much being talked about it on the TV broadcast once play resumed. Not a big deal I don't think

Now talk is that Frank D'Angelo (The Beverage "Mogul") wants to buy the team.

The CFL (That is perpetually hurting for owners with money) said "No" to this guy....why would the NHL let him into the club.

What is the word on Isle of Capri?

...A decision on the licence is expected this week.

Maybe I'll go downtown tomorrow and listen to the presentations.

Didn't they just have 12,000 a week ago?

They're down about 200 per game from last year.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance?year=2006

They drew 12,000 against Florida

You have to understand that was the second day of hunting season in PA.

Over the course of the year they will certainly be up. The hype was rediculous at the beginning of last year and attendance certainly waned towards the middle/end of the season. With the way they are playing I don't see that happening this year.

And yes, I would bet deer season did make a difference that Tuesday :D

The hype was just as big going into this season. That one game (12k) may have been enough to account for the -200 average on its own.

"As a result, we intend to retain Mr. Balsillie's deposit because we believe him to be in breach of our agreement. We can say unequivocally that the deal with Mr. Balsillie is dead.'' Lemieux said in a statement Monday.

So the NHL made a demand that Balsille decided was unreasonable and because of that the Penguins get to keep his deposit. If they keep running this kind of shakedown the team could afford to stay there forever. At the very least that money should go into a new arena fund if Isle of Capri doesn't get the license.

Since the IOC deal is shot down now - maybe Mark Cuban will back up his words since he said if Basille was out he would buy the Penguins - otherwise i'm hoping that D'Angelo will.

[uPDATE] It's official - D'Angelo has announced his bid for the Penguins.

here's the link to it http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=cp-n...p&type=lgns

"Maybe the best hope for the Pittsburgh Penguins is a group headed by Toronto brewery owner Frank D'Angelo and billionaire Barry Sherman. Or, dare they dream, a white-knight deal by Pittsburgh native Mark Cuban."

The Pens aren't going anywhere. No politician in their right mind would want a major league franchise to skip town on their watch. There's a lot of posturing going on right now and has been for some time to get some leverage to negotiate, but in the end there will be a new arena and the Pens will stay.

The mayor is young and there are already lots of people lining up to run against him. Losing the team would give them the ammo they needed during the elections. County commissioner Onorato will also face stiff competition. They will get a deal done.

The city has already bought $16 million worth of land for the new arena and demolition of existing buildings starts next week.

i can certainly understand why lemieux doesn't like politics/politicians

they make lots of promises and then dont follow through with them

i'm sure he much rather be back on the ice right now - or maybe better yet throw some skates on the politicians and let lemieux take runs at them :P
