Koho is Dead 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Hi guys I was hoping you could help me out with a problem of mine.I normally get the blisters when I get new skates, I think we all do. I've had my skates for at least 9 months now so I don't see how I would still be getting blisters. I've got a wart I think (I know disgusting) but it could be a blister. I think its a wart because it sticks out a little bit and its harder then blisters usually are. The reason I think it could be a blister is because its right were I always got my blisters before. Now how I get a wart on my feet is probally because I used to play barefoot. For the last two weeks since this problem started I've been playing with socks just incase it is a wart. I figured it started from bacteria in my skate when I'm barefoot? Is there any suggestions you guys could give me? It hurts to skate on it since it sticks out so much so I'd like to get it taken care of ASAP!Thanks in advance,K.I.D.
zochi 1 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 I'am pretty sure that your local drug mart should have some wart freeze of medication
gman 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Freeze it with the Dr. Scholl's liquid nitrogen. It'll blister and then fall off. By the way....YUCK! One more reason to wear socks.
greech 4 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 Might want to go see the doc on that one. I had a similar 'thing' on my foot and it turned out it was a buildup of skin (it was like a callous) from severe abrasion in my new skates. It got really bad (had to get stitches and the like) and the only solution was new skates.

Dougie8 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 A couple of years ago I had this thing on my toe, what I thought what was a wart. So I was applying wart stuff on it and it was doing nothing. One day I realized I had some Tough Actin Tinactin in my cupboard and i sprayed that on there for about a week, and it cleared right up.
mack 44 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 Definitely go to a doctor on this one. I remember a girl at work thinking she had a wart and nothing was getting rid of it, even having it cut out. It kept coming back and it turned out to be a result of her simply pinching her finger in something and blood vessels had started to build something there. So I doubt it's from your skates...probably some other stuff you do in your free time :P
hapamatt122 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 ok good.. cuz I skate barefoot too and I don't want any warts from that.. besides, I thought the only downside to skating barefoot was smelly skates!
hockeymom 2 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 You can get a lot of nasty infections from skating barefoot... it is a cesspool of bacteria, and just not a good idea. Warts aren't one of the nasty bits.
gman 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 Warts are caused by the HPV (human papiloma virus). Viruses are just little machines that cannot get around on thier own. Once they find a suitable host and an avenue for infection, they do their business. A moist environment like your skates is not at all harmful to the HP virus. It is certainly possible to pick up the HPV from another source, like a towel, locker room, shower stall, dressing room floor or whatever. If another person a wart and their open wart contacts a surface, it is entirely possible for the virus to spread to the surface until you pick it up. Conceivably the virus could be happily swimming around in your boot minding its own business. You mentioned that the bump is where you have in the past had a callous or blister. If you have an open wound, no matter how small, and the swimming virus happens to land there, then you can certainly develop a wart at that point. I am not saying that barefoot skating causes warts. But since nyou can pick up a virus walking around barefoot in the dressing room and then introduce it to a very freindly environment and then work open a little wound..... Well it is not outside the realm of possibility.
illpaseo116 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Definitely see a doctor and find out what it is. If it is a wart then you may be in for bigger problems. I had one small wart on my heel for about 5 or 6 months. It was annoying but wasn't that much of a menace so i kept ignoring it. Out of nowhere, the thing grew to 5 or 6 times its original size and both of my feet became infested with warts. The pain was unbearable at that point. The strangest thing was the dr. only treated the original wart (applying acid and cutting it out over the course of a month until it died) and the others (i had over 2 dozen) cleared up within days of the "mother wart" dying.Bottom line- get it taken care of before it gets worse! yvan12 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2006 Get it checked out by a doctor. If it not a wart (which I doubt it is) putting the 'Freezone' type of stuff on it can burn it pretty bad. If you have been getting blisters on it for a while, it could be a thick callous or, more seriously, it could be a bone spur which is caused by the body building up calcium to protect the tender spot. This can only be removed surgically and it hurts. Also, if you always get blisters from your skates, new or not, then I would change skate-fitters because they are either not fitting you right or they are selling you the wrong brand or model of skate. Blisters should not be a part of the 'breaking in' of skates. Blisters are caused by the foot moving inside the skate causing friction. Either your skate doesn't fit or you have a foot that needs extra fitting aids.
