Plane Crashes in NYC

Recommended Posts

I read this on another site....I didn't watch the game the other day...is it true that Chris Berman commented after Lidle walked his third straight batter:

"Lidle couldn't hit the side of a building right now..."

:(

Very sad.

Two days ago I had a dream about Rosario Dawson......But anyway, I don't understand why CNN needs to have Anderson Cooper on the street talking to random people about "terror" and then cut to images of debris on the ground.

An old story by a Philly Sportswriter who flew with Lidle a week after he got his license.

http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/133...006-617052.html

Thoughts of Thurman Munson and Roberto Clemente, baseball stars who lost their lives on planes, popped into my head. But I was determined to go through with this, live or die...

"It's totally safe," Lidle said, reassuring me. "You'll get an engine quit in a 5-year-old Mercedes more than you'll get this engine to quit. People don't understand it. And if it quits, we'd have plenty of time to glide to where I can land somewhere."

..."This is way safer than people realize," I said as Lidle guided us through the cloudless skies.

*sigh*

Before I left for the rained out Mets game, the news here in NYC said 4 people in total died. 2 in the Plane and 2 in the Building

I can't even imagine what this has to be like for his family. Christ, his wife didn't find-out until she was on the ground after her own flight, and his parents were watching TV when the update came on.

You have to feel for the families of those in the appartments, too. What a terrible, terrible situation.

Just a horrible tragedy. I was at work when people started talking about it, and then my friend and fellow Yank fan called me when I was coming home on the train. RIP Corey Lidle. From all the interviews that were done yesterday, it seemed like he really was a great guy.

If Berman really said this...he has got to feel pretty bad right now. Even though the comment was made in jest...

i guess its his decision to do whatever he wants. kinda like ben rothlesburger(sp?) riding on the motor cycle.

i wonder how many pro athletes do dangerous things such as flying planes?

You're more likely to get in a car accident than be in a plane crash. Does that mean all pro athletes should stop driving?

They were having this discussion on Off The Record (tsn) today. One argument was that it's an extention of the thrill of competing. What can a top level athelete do in his (or her) off time that will bring the same kind of thrill and push them to be their best.

I'd buy that arguement.

True but chances are you will survive most car crashes. Planes tend to be another story. I will leave the flying stuff to the guys and gals who have devoted their lives and education to it thank you.

As will I, but if thats what they want to do, then im all for it. Just because someone is a professional athlete doesnt mean they're lives should be limited.

Dont agree with that at all. If I have invested millions of dollars on a guy via a guaranteed contract I would expect them to reduce risk in their everyday lives.
