NHL drops the ball again

i noticed when a penguins game is on fox sports pittsburgh, that it is automatically blacked out on the center ice channels..

but i haven't experienced what you guys are talking about fortunately

is it being blacked out by the local cable company (comcast, etc..) or by center ice?

All three are considered my "local" team.

Chadd I don't know the distanc between boston and hartford, but I think that you should call up comcast and complain. If you already did and they said it was the NHL's call, then it's garry bettman's fault dammit!

Tonight I do have the Caps game on center ice, this is a mess but at least I get to see Ovechkin tonight. Too bad I have to watch FLorida. Last season I called the NHL, Comcast and the FCC, all of them blamed someone else.

I've had no complainst with Center Ice thusfar... I just hate the aweful music they jump to when they don't feed the commercials.... "dum dum.... da-dum-dum...da-dam-da-dum/dum" it's the worst.

I've had one or 2 nights where they had nothing going on.... no commercials, no music... just the broadcast... it was kinda funny, as you got to hear random yammering and people scrambling during the TV break

i know they have bigger problems to fix - like the stuff chad is talking about, but..

for $150 bucks/year - is it fair to expect them to start broadcasting in HD soon?

i know the local penguins games are available in HD on Fox Sports - but unfortunatley Comcrapst doesn't carry that channel - only the regular defintion one

i have a much easier time following the puck in high definiton broadcasts - and its alot better than that glowing puck thing that Fox tried a couple years back... :P

I get two HD channels with my Centre Ice, at least one game a night and this week has been an early followed by a late every night.

haha certain cities are great when it comes to comercial breaks. the guys in dallas sometimes scope the crowd for chicks at that time :lol:

I know its not feasible, and I know that I'm lucky being a Leafs fan in that I don't encounter it very often, but I absolutely hate watching coverage from other teams. I bet tonight's game will be Columbus' coverage and it'll probably suck.

I live in Austin and they told me when I signed up they would black out the Dallas games. That has yet to happen though - I've seen many Stars games on Center Ice. I'm pretty sure some were home games too.

It would be crazy to think someone living 3 hours away is still their local market anyway.

It sucks that leafs tv games aren't on Center Ice. For the money I'm paying on top of my monthly cable bill, I expect every game on TV. Another thing.. what's up with the bad camera angles on some of the american games? I see all these games with 1 camera with no zoom -- just turning left and right.

They're supposed to black out games that are being broadcast in your market by a local station. The reason being is that local station's advertisers spent lots of money to advertise to you. They don't want you to have an option to watch someone else's broadcast. Having games blacked out that aren't being broadcast means that something is wrong somewhere. The best thing to do would be to call the major sponsors and tell them. Because they're also getting screwed but have a lot more clout then a few random fans.
