Help, which gloves?

Recommended Posts

I'm deciding between these two gloves. Which is a better value in terms of durability of palm, protection and comfort. Thanks.

TPS HGT Pro Returns (I would be getting the $79 ones)

$79 + $29 shipping (CDN)

http://stores.ebay.ca/The-Goalie-Crease_pl...2QQftidZ2QQtZkm

or

Eagle Odyssey X6

$109+tax local pickup (CDN)

http://www.thehockeyshop.com/Merchant2/mer...ode=S_Gloves_Sr

Thanks.

Ive got the TPS HGT Pro gloves and couldnt be happier with them. Ive had them a little over a year now and the palms are just now starting to tear. Ive got a whole in the palm where the butt end goes. Im so happy with the protection though that Im not gona get rid of these gloves, just re-palm them. Although I wouldnt buy them for $79 +$29. Thats a rip off totally. Unless you want them just cause of the Columbus colors. I got mine on ebay for $40 + $15 shipping. It was a store somewhat like Goalie Heaven. They had about 100 pairs different sizes and colors of the same gloves.

I've tried both on, both have felt pretty good, but no one has had the X6's long enough to comment on their durability. badkitty has X6's so maybe he'll comment on those. It also depends on what fits you best, so I'd personally go to your LHS and buy from there.

I find the TPS gloves to be too short in the fingers, which makes the palm fit funny. As well, I seem to recall that the HGT's had a wierd pressure point right on top of the thumb which I didn't care for. I did like the short cuff, but everything else turned me off off them.

Haven't tried the Eagles, so I can't comment on them.

TPS and Eagle are two of my favorite companies, they make great products. Eagle has amazing customer service, they stand by their product which is something you don't see a lot of anymore.

I've mentioned this before but I have a pair of Eagles with a hole in the outer palm. I emailed eagle and told them about the problem, they offered to fix it for free(I only had to pay shipping to them) or they'd send me the replacement palms. They didn't ask for proof of purchase, reciept... nothing. I got the palms in the mail and didn't pay a dime. I doubt many other companies stand by their product like that.

well, I see you had similar dilemma as me. I concluded to go with TPS. BUT! If you were comparing between x70 and TPS gloves which you listed, I would go eagle.

I just bought the x6's last week and I've skated with them twice. So far, I love them. Real soft, comfy palms, and they feel pretty protective without being overly bulky. They just feel great on my hands. I'd highly recommend them, especially for the price I got them at (99 USD) :)

Yup, I have a pair of X6's. Mine are holding up well. I DO have a team mate who owns a pair. He bought them about 2 weeks before I did and he already has a hole in his left palm. He doesn't really take care of his gear though, so i'm not worried about it.

I would buy them again.. I love the palm on them.

How can having a hole in your palm result from not taking care of your equiptment? If you throw your gear around and dont care about it, its not going to get a hole in it. The only way is from using them.

Keeping your nasty soaked gloves in your bag doesn't keep your leather palms nice. Its what happened to my old eagles. The palms get hard and crusty if you dont let them air out. My old palms were so bad that they cracked.

Edit: I should take a picture of his XXX's. I dont know how he did it, but the rust stains are actually going UP his boot.

I own a pair of HGT's and I could not be more happy with them. They are very comfy and felt broken in right off the shelf. Protection wise they have been very good to me. Keep in mind though I have smaller hands with shorter fingers, and the 14" fits me perfectly.

The X6 I have seen and tried on at my LHS. They felt tighter than the HGT's and were pretty stiff off the shelf. Though the palms on them felt great as other poster have mentioned. One thing I liked on the X6's was the higher cuffs, but thats just me

i have x6's, i loved them when i bought them, very soft and very comfy. they felt broken in right off the shelf, even better i only payed 80$ for them. However, after probably 3 months of use (5-6 times a week) the palms are really crusty every time i put them on. My biggest consern with them is that even after just a week i noticed all of these strings hanging off of them on the outside of the glove. It's like the stitching that holds the leather on is unraveling. Has anyone else had this problem? should i be worried?

i have used x6's before, and i think that theyre awesome. they are very light, and the palm has had no durability issues. i dont have much experience with TPS besides a pair of original responses, but i can tell you what i feel about eagle, and thats that they are great.

I'm on my second pair of M-1 gloves. The first lasted over 2 years long without any holes at all. I know quite a few gloves don't last crap so. I love the glove so i'll stay with it as long as I can.
