Blades getting bigger?

Recommended Posts

I just got The Hockey News' 2006-2007 NHL Yearbook, and I was looking at some of the younger players' sticks. Is the trend for the blades to be getting bigger (wider and longer)? With the blades getting lighter, bigger blades wouldn't affect the sticks' overall balances as much.

Also, the younger players seem to be using longer sticks. Cory Perry's looks like it would come up to the top of his head in skates.

I like a short blade as a forward but a longer blade as a defenseman. The longer blade helps with covering more area and improved velocity off the blade. A shorter blade is good for digging a puck out on the boards and getting a quick shot off.

Just to show you the difference in the blades I use; defense = lidstrom clone which is 11" long and the pro stock mission blade I use is 9.25" long.

Off topic: Can anyone tell me if they know of a blade that is long like the lidstrom and a heel curve that doesn't have any or much loft?

thanks, any idea about one with a closed face? assuming that the Roenick is a neutral face or slightly open face.
