NHLer's changing holders

Recommended Posts

I have noticed an increasingly large number of NHL players switiching the holders on their One90's. Tonight i noticed that both Peca and Gagne had switched. Is there a particular reason for this swap. Thanks!!

Do you mean that they changed their holders from the original LS2 Power's to the LS2's or Custom+'s?

If so, lots of players feel comfortable with a certain holder and regardless of which model of skates they are currently using they will throw on the holder they are most comfortable with. In most cases they will have the holders changed before they ever skate in the skates.

I've noticed a fair number of players with the LS2 Power holders. Some of them aren't using One90's either.

Is changing holder bad for skates the same way mounting bindings to ski's is? for example after 3 drillings a technician can no set up a new mount with new holes on a set of skis. Is this the same for skates, or can you constantly switch? i'm thinking of swapping my ls2p to ls2 to put myself a bit more on my toes, and don't wanna fuck up the skates, i already lost a piece of leather around the eyelets.

Somewhat on topic, last night I want to the Canucks game and sat in the first row for the warm up. Of course I was looking at their equipment and there was a lot of skate doctoring going on! I don't think the NHLers like retail products -- that is unless you're a call up!

Sedins, 8k's to look like 9k's.

Naslund - Already discussed

Linden & Morrison - Old Bauers painted up like One90's

If the boots are doctored up this much, can we have faith in "what you see is what they're using" for holders?

I think i'm gonna have to disagree on this one, not much can be doctored with holders other then colour, so unless players are getting ls2's that are see through like a power, just not as long, they're still a ls2, only stiffer. So not really much doctoring can be done... i don't think

Just profile them no need to swtich them? thats a total waist of money!

What about a Heel lift? seems most have agreed that this is the way to go with one90s, and it shouldn't make any more holes in the outsole.

So I asked the R&D guys why the skate feels like this and the reason was simple and very easy to understand.

The traditional hockey skate allows for a ever so slight slippage so in most cases if the blade is flat you can still feel like your on your toes.

With the ONE 90 the skate locks the heel and allows for no movemnt hence the heel is locked to the footbed feeling like with the LS2P holder having more steel in the middle you "FEEL" like you cant lean forward....

...that being said yes a heel lift solves the problem with out removing to much steel.

yah being on the ice a lot i really didn't want to remove any steel, and i was leaning towards the heel lift. think i might have to do this up, i guess i can always have it removed i don't like it.
