The really scary part is some of the more moderate Republicans lost their seats. Even a guy who voted against the war lost his job because of Iraq, there are some really smart people in RI.

It has the potential to be better for the American people. The best economic years of Clinton's administration were with a Republican Congress. A divide between the white house and congress prevents too much "progress" for the right or left. The only negative for me is that this means illegal aliens will be granted amnesty. I'm all for legal immigration, just get in line with everyone else and stop slipping in the back door.

I think this just means that the 08 Presidental election will be competative. If the Republicans would have kept the House, then 08 would have been the Democrat's election to lose. Now that there is some balance it should be much closer.

PS The choices in your poll suck.

There are 2 quotes I really like about politics....

"No matter which party you vote for...the government will always win"

&

"If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice"

I dont know who said the first one...but the second one is from a RUSH song! :D

Politics is one of my favourite sports! I don't know if this is one of his original bits, but my brother (a former politician) always jokes.... "don't vote, it will only encourage them"

I hasten to emphasize that this IS a joke.

I think Brewster was right....None of the Above should be an option on the ballot.

I hate politics, for the record...

But it kind of angers me or makes me sad (for lack of a better phrase) to see such huge divisions between Democrats and Republicans. In the end, we are all on the same team. but I honestly believe hostility towards the two parties with one always trying to gain the upper hand sometimes comes before doing what it right.

I may be dead wrong, but it seems like that to one who pays attention to a minimum.

The bigger problem is that you only have two choices in the US. Because of that duopoly the radical fringes of the parties prevent moderates from gaining power.

Tax and spend.  Kill babies.  Hug trees.  The Democrat Life.

And they're atheists too.

Chucklehead, this is not a good time to bring God into the equation. Compassionate Christian conservatism, how is that looking right now?

They really sold you a load on that one.

bash gays when they are secretly gay, turn surpluses into deficits, start wars for oil, steal elections, give themselves raises and their rich freinds tax breaks but not raise minimum waige to help those who need the money, outsource jobs, the republican life

Ok, I don't mind political threads because I enjoy intelligent debate but this is a joke. Any more outlandish bullshit commentary will earn warnings or suspensions.

You realize that basically everything you just said is incorrect, right? Just because I'm studying for my econ midterm as we speak, I'll just debunk one of your claims for now. I'm pretty sure the people who "need the money" are pretty happy that the minimum wage hasn't been raised because its pretty simple economics that if minimum wage was raised, the amount of jobs would be severely lowered. I'm sure those who have little money would rather take what they have than have nothing at all. Then again, you could just put them on a never ending cycle of welfare and that'd solve the problem, right?

I know I'm going to regret this later, but what does everyone think of Rumsfeld resigning? Personally, I think it's too little too late because in Iraq and elsewhere, we've already dug ourselves into a hole we can't get out.

I haven't been following it too closely, but from the surface it seems like the best way to begin withdrawing from Iraq would be some changes in leadership.

kosy, quite a few of those things are true, especially the first one about gays.

Obviously the reason why so many Republicans are fighting against legalizing same sex marriages is because they all want them for themselves.

Was his screenname really TickleMyElmo? I need to delete that with the quickness if so.

Edit: I guess I'll warn myself.

On some polling machines in PA there was an option to register 'No Vote' right next to the button where you affirm your votes. I guess to show that you made the effort to get to the polls but weren't pleased with any choices.

I think that is really cool. I wondered how people were going to spoil their ballot with electronic systems. I scrutineered in tons of elections and was always surprised at how many people spoiled their ballot. Admired them in a way too; that they took the time to come out and make their p.o.v. known. Especially these days, when it sometimes seems you're just "stirring up the apathy"
