Jason Williams stretchered off the ice in

Recommended Posts

He gave the thumbs up and was talking to the Doctors as he went off...so, I doubt it was a major injury...he was taken to hospital.

[EDIT] They just said he's awake and responsive, but has a deep cut on his head....they haven't used the word "concussion" yet...but I wouldn't be surprised.

thats some nasty hit

right to the head

...but a clean hit, by the rules. The Broadcast, TSN studios guys...even the Wings on the bench said it was a clean (unfortunate) hit.

Still...smart of MacT to keep Torres off te ice on the 3rd...just in case.

i love how the red wings have no one to fight or punish torres for that.

ya it was a clean hit, but when a player goes off like that, the teams gotta have your back. They didnt!

Last year, i got cross-checked from behind against the boards. The dotors said i was paralized from the waist down. When it happened i couldnt feel my legs(worst feeling ever) anyway a day or two later, i could feel my legs again. Luckily they were wrong and it was a briuse on my tailbone.

Anyway there were numerous fights afterwards, and the next game we played them there were 3 fights.

Anytime a player gets carried off its not a good site, but the team has got to have ur back

I don't think Torres played after the hit...

I'd say the Wings punished them quite badly by kicking the ever living shit out of them in the game. Somehow that seems a lot bigger AND smarter then sending a goon out to try and demolish Torres and get their team in penalty trouble.

Actually, I double checked the Shift chart from last night...he had 4 short shifts in the 3rd...

They were talking about it on TSN, the reporter down by the bench said he heard a couple of players say "What number was that" but the replies they got were "It was a clean hit"

There is no point starting a fight for fights sakes. I love that the NHL has fighting, but if you are going to drop the gloves every time there is a clean hit, then it will become a freak show.

If someone goes knee on knee, or goes after your stars, you protect them, seek retribution, but if someone gets cleanly clocked, the best way to get back is to win.

What you described is completely different, you were cross checked from behind into the boards, to me, that warrants retribution, that hit last night, does not

I 'm of the opinion that it should be an illegal hit for the simple reason that the hit was not given to have an advantage on the puck but to impede on a players progress...

I explain: Williams was trying to wrap around the net to score, Raf just came in to knock him down wen he should only try to hit him to get the puck, after the hit, he had no clue where the puck was... A body check is to be used the same as a stick check, you don't stick check a guy to knock the stick out of his hands or break his stick, you try to lift or nudge it to gain access to the puck...

Thats why hitting was instored into hockey in the first place and the best players know how to do it, Thornton hits guys by separating them from the puck with his hip and takes the puck, Lidstrom the same, now that stupid open Ice stuff as spectacular that it is (Like Cambell on Umberger) to me is dumb, eventualy someone will die...

Whaa?

Hitting, yes, is mostly about knocking a guy off the puck. It's also about making a guy pay a price for carrying the puck. There's only so much you can do with the biscuit if you're thinking about getting run. That's the point. Not only that: it can be a great momentum-shifter

Campbell's hit wasn't even close to being the same type of play. Brian just picked-up on the suicide-pass through the middle and took advantage of it. The most important thing is that he knocked Umberger off the puck and disrupted the rush. But he did it with authority, which definitely swung momentum further in Buffalo's direction.

Are you trying to say that a guy should go easy on someone when they have their head-down in open ice? The big hit in the middle is part of the game - that's why kids are taught to keep their heads up from the time their 8 years old.

I never said to go easy, I said to use the body check as long as your doing it to get the puck, guys like Bouillon in Montreal dish out big time momentum hits but it's also as part of getting an advantage on the puck, I think that if that was part of the rules there would be less injeries...

Look closly, if Cambell had to make an attempt at taking the puck, Umberger gets laid but not hurt... If you look closely, that puck goes right by him, actualy when thru his legs, he had no intention to get the puck... if he was trying to get that puck, he might have even got a scoring chance...

To me it's a respect thing and guys have none, catch the guy going sideways at least...

Someone tried to fight Torres. Mac sat'em for the second and most of the third. I think it was Schneider who tried to fight'em, but it got broken up and was more of a skermish.

If Campbell plays the puck instead of the man then he rides the pine the rest of the game.

...and he might end-up being the one that gets hurt on the play. The game is so fast, there are times when you might want to make the hit and keep the fuck away from the puck because you're in a position to be run. Should Campbell have played the puck, there's a good chance he gets knocked on his ass and Philly breaks a 2-1 or even a 3-1 in the other direction.

Cliched and corny as it sounds, hockey is "hit or be hit."

One punch to Gonzo and he'd go down like a sack of matzo balls. I'm guessing someone on Detroit got that stopped as soon as possible.

I'm of the opinion that could have tapped the puck to the board and let Unberg go by him and got to the puck, it's called pokechecking and even if he misses he still has the option to sholder on sholder hit... I think he purposely cleaned him to get the big hit...

Hey it's just my opinion that theres allot of those claseless guys in the league

Avery, Torres, Phaneuf etc... Cheap shot artists

Guys like Ovechkin, Blake, The Kid often get Highlight hits and nobody is hurt to the head

He tries to tap the puck to the boards and risks having Umberger skate right through him as part of an odd-man rush should another Philly player pick up that puck. Campbell made the right play, he takes the body and his partner gets the puck as it comes out to center ice.
