Skate Dilemma

Recommended Posts

My skate is too small for me now. I had bauer 8090, and I really loved it. However, recently, I have hard time to wear the skate, and, of course, it is small for me. Thank god, I have enough budget to get a new pair, even one 90!!

Okay, here is my problem. I see lots of my teammate using graf or easton. My dad recommand me to use graf. But I haven't used the graf skates, and I have no idea about graf skates. Buy One90, bauer XXX, or Graf?

EDT: I have gone through the search, but I couldn't find any topic related to this. I'm sorry if I missed it,

Try them ALL on with a good skate fitter. Anyone else's opinion isn't going to be based on how they feel on your feet anyway. You will find people who love and people who hate all the skates on your list.

Go to your LHS and try 'em on. You need to find-out what fits your foot best. If you're lucky, you'll be able to find a place in a rink that will let you go out and take the skates for a little test-run during an open skate or something. I've done this with every pair of skates I've bought over the last three years or so (we're not going to get into how many pairs that would be...), and it really affords you the opportunity to see how each boot/holder reacts to your stride and weight shifts.

Well, when I'm getting skates, I usually go to the Pepsi Center in Amherst, NY (mostly a Graf specialist), or up to Front Row Sports in Thorold, Ontario. I don't believe everyone gets the same treatment, though - a few of my older buddies pretty well run the shop at the Pepsi Center, and I 'worked' fairly closely with the Graf rep at FRS after I tore completely through two pairs of G-35s (from the first couple "batches") in about a month and they were trying to figure out what it was they did wrong.

well coming from a bauer 8090 skate which is probably way stiffer then a gra you might find a big difference. I had 1300c`s and when i was waiting for the warranty replacement pair i had to use graf g3's and the skates felt like rubber boots.. i coudnt skate at all they fell nice when you put them on but once you skate in them is a different story... if i were you get your skates at the best possible sport store you have and try to see if you can get vapor XX's.. you can get them on closeout now for pretty much nothing online o if you get sixzed properly you just order or which ever.

Graf 709 may very well be your best bet for fit, they are also comparable in stiffness. Not quite the same weight as an 8090. If you stay bauer go for the one 90 the supreme 70 has a slightly different fit than the 8090, In my experiences.

note that the grafs will have a "on your toes" feel, whereas your bauers are more "on your heels"

I'd agree with the 709, or even the G9 is you want something a little stiffer and a little lighter. This is assuming the 8090 fit you properly.

You all are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong here, but this sounds like bad advise. Everything I have read here has the Vapor line fitting totaly different from the Supreme line.

If 8090's fit him and feel good, I would think XX's are not a good chocie.

Does xxx have same feeling as 8090?

I might go LHS for tomorrow.

No, the Vapor line does not fit the same as the Supreme line. As noted above, the replacement for the 8090 is the Supreme 70.

This might help i have Graf G9s and i love em.They were my first ever Grafs.I also came from Bauer xx and thought it might be risky because everyone says Grafs have a foward lean feel. They do have a foward lean for sure, but i got used to it in 3 or 4 hours of skating.I have been skating on them for 5 months and i am 100% happy with my descision.I think they look pretty sweet also.My next pair when the time comes will most likely be Grafs again but this time the Great Whites! :D Hope this helps!
