Multivitamins

Recommended Posts

I was wondering because I have started to take the GNC Mega Men and wanted to know if their are negatives in taking them. Ive hears that taking a multivitamin with over 100 percent of the daily needs can be harmful.

They're fine, recommended daily allowances are the bare minimum someone needs to survive, taking more than that is fine. A multi is one of the few supplements that's worth buying/taking.

It is better to eat a lot of veggies and fruits. But, yeah, most hockey players have vitamin and mineral deficiencies. A high quality multivitamin and a calcium/magnesium pill(s) could help a lot during the season. I would not try to take more than 200% of the RDA of any item unless I really knew what I was doing and there was a good reason to do it. If you take too much, you just piss it out and screw up your kidney's in the process. And guys should not be taking anything with iron in it.

Really Biff? I didn't know this - I knew women should take EXTRA iron but always assumed men would take the "regular amount" of iron (whatever that is) not "no iron". Obviously never been all that concerned about the amount of iron in my "ironman" LOL

They can be good but if you take too much at a time or to many vitamins/supplements you can really injure your body and get severely sick.

If anyone actually wants to know more about this, a really good book is the Vitamin Bible. It breaks down everything really well and also says what happens to the excess vitamins' in your body. Some just get "peed away" but others can build up in your system - and they are the ones to be careful of.

If you are just taking a multi-vitamin there is nothing to worry about, and no need to become knowledgeable about it.

..and don't freak out when you notice your urine turns fluorescent yellow. That's just excess vitamin B your body didn't utilize. The first couple of times is pretty neat though, I must admit. It's hard to believe that came out of you, looked radioactive...

Vitamins are for panzies.

nah, what a pansy is someone who no-calls/no-shows on JR then doesn't give him the courtesy of telling him you got another job...

a pansy also lies where he plays hockey at, showing up to drop-in with the compuware team bag telling guys that you play for them, yet are too old to be on the team.

yeah, my boy plays for compuware midget major and was telling me that someone stole a bag from the locker room...

that's cool though, thanks to you, I have a job.

God you are annoying. All of your posts are either complete bullshit, make no sense at all or just to crap on a thread.. honestly, go away.

WASTE OF MONEY! Use the money you would spend on multivitamins to buy fruit and vegetables - it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work that one out....

I eat plenty of fruits and vegi's. Sometimes I just am lacking in the healty food dept lol :)

Shit happens. When you're working 13 hour days it's hard to make phone calls.

First off I never said I played for Compuware, I said made the team 2 years ago but never played. And my friend gave me that bag so if anyone stole it it wasn't me.

i was here when you told JR you made the team THIS YEAR.

still, you dissed JR...i'm surprised you have the balls to post on here and act a fool after that.

he's a classy dude, if i were him i would've banned your ass a long time ago.

No I didn't say that. I'm not stupid enough to not know and '87 couldn't make a Midget Major team this year. If I did say that then I lied, I must have been a little tipsy.

And I apologized twice. Get over it.

And yeah, I have the balls to do anything. If you knew me you would know that.

Vitamins are for panzies.

I just tested a new feature on MSH and thought others might be interested. It is the "ignore user" button. I activated it, by clicking on the member's name... and then clicking on the drop down menu at the upper right of their profile page.

What appears in the thread is that the member made a post, but you have chosen not to read it. How civilized.

Yeah, guys have no way to loose the iron, so it just builds up in your body and eventually you get poisoned by it. Guys should not be taking those women's vitamin tablets! You get a fair ammount of iron in your daily food, and unless a doctor tells you you have anemia or you are a marathon runner, that is all you need! Red meat is full of iron, for instance.

Calcium and Magnesium are the two things that hockey players routinely have a deficiency in, not iron.

I use Nature's Way Alive multi-vitamins and I'll never go back to another multi-vitamin. These things are awesome, you take 3 a day and they have all the necessary vitamins and minerals that you would need, and you feel "good" after taking them, its hard to describe but you just do. It also is a saurce of "green foods" which the lady at the shop was telling me is very important.. I don't work for the vitaminshoppe or Nature's way, I just feel that its a good product and this is where I purchase it. http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/brow....jsp?id=NW-1177 feel free to do your own research on the ingredients and see what you can come up with..

edit: btw, I'm 26 yrs old and exercise regularly and the 3 vitamins per day is my recommended dosage.
