Need Help With My Skates* Mods Go Ahead And Lock :)

Recommended Posts

Ok so heres a bit of backround info:

I was sized up as a 11 on my right foot and slightly more than 10 on the left. I wanted to try synergy 1500's but the salesman insisted it wouldnt work and put me in a 10.5 one90. It felt allright in the store, my right foot was kind of cramped but after baking it was pretty good. I went home and walked around all day and kept them on and my toes feel very cramped in the right foot.

I went back to the store and asked to try on an 11. They dont carry anything larger than 10 1/2 and he insists it should be fine. I went skating on them at a public skate because he said that if they were too terrible that i could take them back after a light skate. Anyways i havent gone back after the public skate but i feel i need a bigger size. now could it be that im just not used to "zero negative space?" or is it to small for my bigger foot. What exactly should these revolutionary skates feel like on me? It shouldnt make my feet feel extremely claustraphobic? (SP?) Anyways im really in a tight spot. i dont want to waste 900 dollars on a pair of skates that are too small. I have a game tomorrow and was thinking about busting these out then but that would disregard the return policy he allowed.

JR or anyone PLEASE if you could give me some insight on this that would be highly appreciated.

Thanks alot,

Derek

So your complaining about skates that you've skated in twice?

Give it a couple of skates there gonna strech

I would stick it out with the 10.5. You don't want slop, especially in that boot. And always remember that the skate can be made bigger, not smaller - if you get the bigger size then your left foot will be swimming in the boot.

thats exactly what i was thinking chadd.

they are so stiff and i cant see them moving at all.

thanks JR so you think i should just tough it out and see how it goes?

The guy said they can be stretched probably a half size.

No they aren't.

You don't think skates stretch?

I know for a fact that they do

Now am not an expert like JR and Chadd, but I do know that I was in the same boat as you seem to be with my One90's. I got them sized as a much smaller size then what I had expected, and they even felt great in the store, but when I got on the ice for the first few skates it was hurting to skate. I was definitely worried as I had shelled out $800 on these and thought that they weren't right for me, but I assure you that they will get better after the fourth or fifth skate on you.

Good Luck

Traditional skates yes. One90 or Kor, as part of the breaking in process, not so much. It's also usually the padding getting getting compressed, not the skates actually growing.

thanks guys, that makes me feel better about my "investment."

any tips on how to speed up the break in process, or even how to make them stretch out in the toes more?

Try them out a couple times with no socks or the super super thin ones. Worked for me. And one90's let up a bit. Definetly not a 1/2 size. but once the padding sets inn you will see.

On the box the reg price here in edmonton is 899.

they were on sale for 799. Oh big savings.

I wear the thinnest UA socks i can find, i skated in them again tonight and i felt extremely cramped in the toes again.

Im going back to the store and seeing what they can do, i cant play in them like this

are you making sure that you are kicking back all the way? i had a girl in our store requesting a new pair of skates because the ones she bought at a different hockey store weren't fitting properly.

i checked the fit, and it was right. i asked her to put them on and she just set her feet in with thick bunched up socks had her walk around and point out where it hurt.

had her take them off, put new thin socks on...kick back and the problem was solved.

if your buying one90's...i highly doubt you are having issues with putting them on and kicking back...but it's just a thought.

i actually see a lot of kids not kick back what so ever a lot with new skates

So I wore them again tonight this time at practice.

First five minutes my feet absolutely killed. My Toes are VERY cramped in the toe box and i have to keep them curled up to skate somewhat comfortably. I switched back to my grafs after the five minutes.

I get to the locker room and BAM there is a Deep cut on the inside left of the skate, a circular scratch, as well as a smaller cut.

ALL FROM FIVE MINUTES I GET THREE CUTS??? we didnt touch pucks or do anything but a light skate.

Im really pissed right now and am going first thing tomorrow morning to make them take these back, its unbearable.

Have you pulled the footbed out of the skate and stood on it to see exactly where your toes end up at the front? Is there any room on the footbed at the toes or are your toes over the front? Did they try this when you were getting fitted for the skates? We do it every time in our shop. This method tells the story about where your toes are and just how much or how little room is up front.

Good luck returning them now with cuts all over the skate...I have been looking at new skates, but decided to stay away from the one90's, mainly because of the durability issues I have read about. Plus the high price, and the weird look of the things. But I hope you find some that fit. I have the opposite problem, I realized my skates are a little bit too big, which might even be worse than too small.

Is this a good way to determine skate fit? Are the footbeds for skates different in half-sizes the same? Eg. 7.0 and 7.5

If you look in the heel of the skates is the padding quite compacted? If you look in heel and don't see a lot of creases or it doesn't look compacted I would consider more heat molding, or at least wearing them around the house first.

Also, with your arch pain, have you tried lacing the skates quite loose over the top of your foot then quite tight at the ankle? This may also relieve some pressure on your foot.

I have not personally seen any durability issues. I have heard of a few but with all of the people I have seen in the skate I have not run into one person who is having problems, even at the college level

The footbeds are different sizes. I have always used this method when buying skates.

Ive tried tying them loose, tight, everything. The heel padding isnt very compacted yet.

I hope they will take them back, after all the guy did say to "try" them before complaining there was a problem.
