Heat molding.. is it really necessary?

Recommended Posts

I have had my last 2 pairs of skates heat molded to fit better and figured I would always do this. However, I got my graf 705's today in the post and they fit well enough that I don't think they need to be heat molded. I was wondering if I should still do it anyway. At this point, I'll probably wear them a few times to see how they feel in action and decide whether or not to have them heat molded at that time.

I was told that most of the pros just wear the straight out of the box. thrashers that is

Surely thats a little different as most if not all would wear custom skates?

true, but i found with my XXX's the pair that fit and worked the best was the pair i didn't heat.

its probbally because there stiffer

it all depends on how the fit on you, if they fit perfect then leave them,if you need a little room bake them

i wore two pairs of ccm 852s and had both baked and my last too skates have both been easton, niether one baked and i honestly haven't noticed a difference, if anything the eastons feel better. They may just be nicer skates but i think molding is a scam, it might help with break in time but all skates mold if you wear them for few weeks.

It's all P/P. If they fit fine then why bother?

Even then, I am sure pretty much all of them heat mold them, maybe JR knows more than us, but I got custom Grafs and I still heat mold them before using them.

I just dont see the point to heat mold them if they fit fine out of the box. It's not like they will fit any better. Hence the word fit (FINE).

The only skates that absolutely NEED to be heat molded are the Kor and One90's because they are fully heat-formable rather than just heat-moldable.

For the rest, heat molding helps with hot spots or to - say ease the padding around the heel - but the skates will still need to be broken in. Heat molding is not breaking skates in. If they fit fine out of the box you don't actually NEED to have them heat-molded.
