How many people have multiple sets of gear?

Recommended Posts

I Have about a full set and a half with a lot of sticks a few gloves and a few skates, but what I didn't mention is that I play every position so I have Almost two sets of Goaltenders equipment aswell. I have Two Masks Three Catch gloves two Blockers working on my second pair of pads a chest and arm and I think I have a second sat of goal pants around somewhere.

O.K., so I just got back from Sports Authority. Evidently, the stuff was marked down from the original marked down price. I got a pair of Jofa 7500 shoulders for $20.62, Jofa 7500 elbows for $13.62, and a pair of Jofa 6550 gloves for $20.62. Overall I'd call that a worth while shopping trip.

No joke. The SA stores around here don't even carry that kind of stuff.

As for the original question, I've been slowly replacing my old roller gear with ice-level stuff, so while I sort of have two sets, I'd never use the roller stuff for ice hockey again. For the ice gear, I tend to use stuff until it wears out; I'd really like to get a second decent stick (right now all I have for a backup is a Sherwood 5030 whose blade has gone pretty soft) and some new skates, but other than that I probably won't buy replacements until I need them.

But then, I'm married, my wife is getting a Ph.D. and we have a kid on the way, so my disposable income is not what it used to be. ;)

Doesn't want to know about the features etc., it all comes down to whether it feels good, or not. And it is impossible trying to change something until the original piece is hopelessly too small or has absolutely fallen apart.

It is hard to live vicariously through your kid when they won't co-operate. If I only had a kid that was into gear....LOL

I'm like that too, and I doubt it is only kids. I hate getting new gear (besides sticks). And when I do have to get gear, I will get the exact same model. What I don't get about your post is that you said "If I only had a kid that was into gear".

Even if she was into gear, why would that change what she likes and what she thinks fits good?

I don't have anything other than what I use on the ice... I play at least 5 times a week and I have no problem drying anything out, unless it's a tournament. If the latter's the case I just put on my soaking wet gear and go with it. You only notice it for about 5 minutes anyways.

TSA doesn't carry much for hockey, it must have been old stock. As far as protective equipment we have 452 tacks as the highest line of gloves, elbows, shoulders, helmets and shins. We also only carry(in store, at least down here) Easton and CCM protective, except for bauer 1500 helmets. As far as sticks we don't offer much either, we have the CCM "Thorton" abs, Easton's ultra abs, NBH one40, sherwood 5030, easton octane shaft w/blade, easton one, synergy 300 and vector se. Online we have a few more choices, not sure what we stock up north though.

Ahhh... a joke - it wouldn't change what she likes/what fits. BUT... if she was more into gear, I would have an excuse to buy more gear... including sticks.

Here in NYC, TSA has similar stock to what you've got, but i've seen STs and Synergy 800 gloves. Don't get me started on the skates....Total crap.

If you head out to long island where more people play, however, they actually have a decent selection, better than some smaller LHS. Even modell's carries good stuff, and in the city they have absolutely nothing.

as far as gearwhoring, I've got 2 spare pairs of skates (one ice, one inline), 3 spare pairs of gloves, 2 extra helmets, and about 15 sticks total, 2 of which I use. I'd be much worse If I had more disposable income though.

I have two complete sets of equipment and then some... I started hockey a bunch of years ago and needed gear in a hurry at the time, so I just bought whatever the Sport Chek kid was suggesting. Over several years, I slowly replaced every piece of gear over time as I realized which pieces I disliked and why, so I sought gear to remedy those problems. The extra set of protective gear aside, I think I also have 5 helmets in total, 4 pairs of skates (of which I only wear one pair), 3 pairs of gloves, 3 pairs of pants, and maybe a partridge in a pear tree too. Damn I'm a pack rat...

two sets - one for roller & one for ice. But in terms of total equipment:

6 pairs of gloves

7 pairs of skates

2 sets of shins

3 sets of elbows

3 sets of shoulder pads

same helmet for both
