Going custom with skates

Recommended Posts

Alright, i edited this [old] one so there is no new for another thread.

I will get me custom skates. Hooray. Hey you over there, stop partying..

Well, at the moment im fine with my 8090s but i can get a pair of custom skates for free so i wont hesitate to realize this offer.

I actually wanted to get me a pair of 8090 dressed up as ONE90s but this night i got an idea and i hope i can get some input if its possible or not.

With my big, flat food its impossible to fit into a normal, retail EE-width Vapor (for example XXX) Skate, so would it be possible to get me a (custom) EEE XXXX skate? Someone on here said in an old thread that a 8090 EE is as wide as a Vapor with a EEE width, so from this aspect it would be possible. But that are just assumptions.

Thanks in advance. I will post some other questions afterwards, but this one above is the first and most important one.

Yes, i know that i will be able to go up to 4E, but i dont know if will match the width of a 8090 in EE. And what about the depth and other aspects a 8090 has which a Vapor (in this case a XXXX) has not.

And what about the custom options? They dont change from model to model, do they? JR or someone posted the custom options in another thread, they will be the same, right?

^^I was also wondering what options are available myself.

I'm looking into the XXX, the XXXX, the Vector 8.0 or 9k. My left foot needs about a 1/4-1/2 size larger than my right one and I was wondering what my options were and how easy/how much each would cost to customize. I'm coming from tacks which aren't feeling too good but at the same time aren't too bad, so right now the 9Ks are top on the list BUT I have a smaller heel so I'd probably need the 9Ks with a smaller heel and slightly wider forefoot. I'm of course going to order through my LHS but I want to go in there with some basic knowledge of what I want.

I spoke to NBH about a similar request for an older last (in my case the 7000). I was told that they do not offer the last of the 7000, 8000, or 8090. In my case of having a sausage foot, I was told I can get the XXX, XXXX, or the One90 in a B or C width, AA or A heel, in any stiffness from 1 to 5. I asked about the widest and they told me 4E. The cost of a custom boot is estimated to be about retail + $100.

7000, 8000 or 8090 are just available to the Pros. Those are dressed up as ONE90s.

It's not going to matter what boot you get, if the skate is made off your last, you can essentially wear anything.

Could you explain that to me more in detail? I dont get it. Or at least i think that i dont get it.

No, what I mean is based on the measurements and traces of your foot, they will make the skate to fit to your foot.

Good clarification JR. A custom last can be applied to any available skate that Nike makes. If you don't trust your LHS to do it right, call NBH directly. That's what I did, and learned more than my LHS knows. They will ask for measurements of your foot to build your last. That same last will be used for any boot you get...One90, XXXX, XXX...whatever boot they can still make.

ok well if i wanted to get custom done all i would have to do is fax my traces to you...and you would take care of the rest?

Sure but you're going to have to mail me the traces...fax machines/scanners distort them.

as JR said, the fax/scanner distorts the traces

Exactly. Scanners and fax machines to not print to scale...they print to the specification of the printer. It is better to mail a tracing, unless you have a good eye and provide a significant amount of exact measurements of distances at specific points of the foot....but you better be accurate or you will be the only one to blame for a screwy last.

Another question.

There is a 5 or 6 digit inside the boot, mostly written with a sharpie on the insole under the footbed. Whats up with this #? When i want to order a pair of custom skates and just give NBH one particular number, do they know which skate (with the special options, size, etc) was made for this #? I wore a pro stock custom skates which had EVERYTHING i love, even the same size and customs tweaks.
