dieselbro 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2006 For all you other xbox 360 owners out there, do you think an intercooler for your system is actually worth it? On the net I have read some horror stories where an intercooler somehow melted permanently onto the console. Is the risk in using one (if there even is a risk...) worth the reward of dropping the temps 2 - 10 degrees F?? thanks in advanceand lets try not to get into arguments concerning PS3 vs Xbox 360... Fury of One 6 Report post Posted December 25, 2006 I bought one of those. I figured for $15 it wasn't too bad. I haven't seen any of the stories about it melting to the console but I have read stories of the 360 overheating so I picked one up. Granted it was running fine prior to me getting one but it's there for what it's worth.
dieselbro 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 thanks for the info, how long have you been runnin' it with the intercooler??
AnthonyJTa 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 I'm on my 2nd XBox 360 console... I bought the Intercooler when I first got XBox 360. I had it hooked up, and 2 weeks later- my XBox was all screwed up. I wasn't getting any video, then I would, etc. When I went to pack up the console to return to Best Buy (the protection plan = amazing) I pulled the Intercooler out, and the part that goes into the power supply slot had turned black. When I got my new console home, I left the Intercooler off- and I've had no issues. While I don't have 100% proof it was the intercooler, I'm not going to use it, nor am I having any problems. David13 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 I have heard multiple stories of people getting them melted into the back of their xbox then not being able to get a new one because it wasnt an official xbox product.
hockeyherb 1 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 If it adds any extra noise to the running of the system I don't want it. The 360 already sounds like a noisy airplane on the tarmac to me.
Fury of One 6 Report post Posted December 26, 2006 thanks for the info, how long have you been runnin' it with the intercooler??I've had it for a little over a month. I've had no problems thus far. I don't know if all the problems with the Intercooler come from not keeping it in a well ventilated area to begin with or if it is defective but I'm not having any issues and I keep my 360 in a pretty wide open space. Again, not sure if it was a bad console or the intercooler itself- but seeing the discoloration on the intercooler's power source scared the hell out of me. JR Boucicaut 3802 Report post Posted December 27, 2006 Now, I just got one...what if it craps out? Is there a warranty involved?
Fury of One 6 Report post Posted December 27, 2006 Here's a link to what AnthonyJTa was talking about. It does sound pretty messed up.http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/nyko/intercoo...rony-214213.phpI think it voids the warranty for the 360 because it's not an officially licensed Microsoft product so that means you're screwed out of a 360 if it does crap it out. Now I'm having second thoughts.

Now I'm having second thoughts. mine was even worse... it was all black around the outside edges, etc. It had no video whatsoever. A friend claims it the Intercooler was drawing too much power from the power supply, and not giving enough to the 360. JR- I believe Microsoft has a 90 day manuf. warranty... but I bought mine at Best Buy, and paid extra $50 for the service plan... they swapped mine out no questions asked.
