Jordan 13 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 My son played 3 on 3 last night at a place call Future Stars in Toronto. I witnessed the worst ice in the history of hockey. Not only was it soft (which happens this time of year when it is hot and humid) but the puck just wouldn't slide. If you gave it a push that should send it say ten feet, it would go about three and then just stop. It was acting like you hit a puddle right after a flood. The thing is that were no puddles and it lasted the entire game and it occurred equally all over the playing surface. It was really weird to watch...I have never seen the puck act this, even when our outdoor rink is meltting. CCC8190 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 the worst ice has to be in Wall, NJ. They have 3 rinks, one of which is decent. the other 2 are horrendous, one of them having a hill from blue line to blue line.
Chanimal 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Not sure if anyone has said this already, but Burnaby 8 Rinks as some of the best ice (the Blue Rink is where the Canucks train), and the worst. Not sure if it is the Gold B rink, but one of the older ones actuall has a downhill slope on the Zamboni end. It's a 2% slope at least! And you can see the pipes and at one spot, you can actually see the concrete underneath. The best ice I have sakted on is the South Surrey Arena, where the Surrey Eagles play. I believe it is an Olympic size sheet of ice.

jcp2 2 Report post Posted June 6, 2007 For this time of the year around me, any ice is "good" ice. I attribute any unexpected falls, passing gaffes, whiffed shots, and rolling pucks to my innate abilities as a low level beer leaguer. Really, Really, Really bad ice. and that super small puddle rink as far away from the compressor as possible is he most inefficent thing i have ever seen in a rink. Don't get me wrong though, they spent their money well when it comes to the building... but as far as ice goes, it is crap.

crazykeeper3317 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2007 ive played on some god awul rinks here in the uk. one had a massive dip in the centre of the ice so if a guy fired it from his zone it acted as a ramp and it took off over the boards, another rink was so cold even in summer when we played it fogged up and you couldnt see infront of you. the worst has got to be this one in notts nick named the shed and it was more of a giant freezer then a rink it was cold and had loads of lumps in the ice everywhere
hockeyplaya97 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 The Ice Zone-Ice rink inside a mall, great ice. The Blues practice there, they give away free gear after practices. By far the best I've skated on.Rec Plex South Rink-Terrible. Basically an ice rink covered by a tarp. In Missouri, that doesn't go very well. There is a ditch in every corner of the ice and a ramp where the Zamboni goes off that starts about at the faceoff dot. They are putting in a new parking lot. So, there's not enough AC, the equipment is old as the hills, it's never maintained and the highschool kids are told to maintain the ice with no training. They just whiz around on the Zam damn near drifting in the corners. They have fixed the issue of no ice 2 - 3" from the boards. Other than that, it's constant public skate and the kids dig holes all over the ice with toe picks. I realize that's always an issue but they never fix it, so you'll be chasing the puck and end up in a ditch dug in the ice by some jerk kid.Yay, Ice Hockey in Fort Worth... sabre09923 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 The worst case I can remember was the Raynham rink (forget what it was called), and it was the worst ice ever. Ruts everywhere, and it was pretty much melted by the time we got out there; with pools of water in the crease and behind the net. It was pretty much impossible to play, somehow we managed to get the full game in. The best place I've played in is Cushing Academy's ice, a prep school around 15 minutes away from my house. It's really nice and hard, and doesn't have that many ruts in it. They really take good care of their ice there, and it shows.
kimo 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 Living in Winnipeg which is one of the coldest places on earth, there is really no bad ice here. Up until a few years ago Glenwood my local arena about a 2 min walk away had natural ice. It would take an extra week or 2 to get ready to skate on, but this was the most amazing ice to be on. The would flood it with a hose then go over it with a rigged up tractor. So slick and fast, hands down amazing. There is really no bad arena's here because of our winter temps, but I played an arena in ottawa and Toronto. The ice surfaces across winnipeg put both these rinks to shame. Cant recall the names of the other arena's but the Ottawa one was a bigger arena with a fair amount of seats. I still remember when that building was the Burnaby 4 Rinks and the B-side had all four rinks. Each of those four were built like the two remaining hockey sheets. And yes, you can stand on the center face off dot and start gliding towards the zamboni gate without pushing! You really pick up speed around the end zone face off circles.Haven't been there in ages, but I remember South Surrey Arena having awesome ice. Yes, it is international sized.Best ice I've been on the past couple of seasons is the main arena at the Everett Events Center, where the WHL's Everett Silvertips play. I've been fortunate to officiate a handful of adult rec games there.
