Oakley or Itech Shield

Recommended Posts

just a few questions on shields... I haven't been able to find any oakley shields around here as they are extremely popular and dont stay on the shelves to long... I am looking at the aviator style shield and was just wondering how important certification was on a shield. the oakley is apparently the only "certified" shield I saw, how important is this rating?

if you so what would you choose, either the oakley avaitor or the itech aviator style?

thanks guys

I believe that certifaction is only important if you referee or play in a league that requires it. I currently have the Oakley Pro Modified aviator and really like it.

itech also makes 4 certified half shields.

i went with an itech shield because it was about $15 cheaper than an oakley of the same style, and i don't have to bother with the oakley AFR cleaner. i got an HS22 straight cut. though the oakley straight cut looks like it offers a little more protection.

I have both, only problem I had was finding out I was using the wrong cleaner too late. I think length and style is more important than brand now since technology has come so far for the visors.

You dont need a special cleaner. Either use shampoo or use normal clean (hot) water and clean it with a unused towel. Works oh so fine for me.

Isn't the HS22 built under license from Oakley? e.g, the same thing (construction). I recall seing a tag on the HS22 that said this. I don't have any Hs22's left to verify, but I could swear it said built under license from Oakly on the package.

Also if you get an Oakley, you don't have to use the AFR cleaner.

I believe the sticker says that Itech uses an Oakley patented system in manufacturing, but I don't know if they are 100% the same.

As for AFR, all I know is that I used the simple water cleaning method on my old 1Xcel visor and it crystallized, so I don't trust them; but that is just my personal experience.

I went with the HS22 straight. Just seemed a good value and a perfect fit for my Itech and Intake helmets
