Graf Ultra G5 and Vector 10.0 comparison. Pics inside.

Recommended Posts

I didnt notice anything particularly great about the footbed. Looked and felt the same to me as everybody elses. I put superfeet in them anyway.

Well, I skated in them again today, and they are just not me. I am 6"3 260, and maybe they are just made for smaller fast dudes who are lighter on their feet. I tend to skate more on the toe, and trying to take a skate that was not meant to do that and change it into something its not is a waste of time IMO. The boot works ok for me, but of everything I have tried so far, the Vector 10.0's have impressed the most overall.

Still gonna try for the hell of it:

Reebok 9k's.

Supreme One70's

They are on da bay if anyone is interested at a serious discount.

JR...what makes the graf footbeds so good? They felt inferior to the Bauer footbeds to me. I was goin to get some superfeets, but if the grafs are good maybe i'll give them another try.

Hey Shawn before you get rid of them why don't you get a 9 foot radius done on your blades.

Or put Tuuks on them.

Shawn,

I read your post yesterday and really wanted to reply. I signed up and got the OK to post today... Hello everyone...

Regarding the Graf's... Give them a chance. I purchased a pair a G3's over the summer and had the same concerns that you did. I went from OLD CCM's to the new Graf's. When I played competetive, I liked my skates super tight (Size 8.5 shoe size, wore 6.5 skate). Now that I'm playing pickup with friends and a once-and-a-while beer leage game, I went to a size 7. I'll tell you, when I first tried these out on the ice I felt like a beginner! Not only was I shocked by the light weight, man was I pitched forward. For the first three skates I was really regretting my $500.00 purchase! Did I buy them too big, should I have stuck with CCM? I took a week off from skating to play golf and visit out of town family. That week off was the best thing that I did. When I laced 'em up again, bingo. I was no longer used to my old skates, all of a sudden I felt really comfy on these skates. Since then I absolutely love these skates. Never had a blister, REALLY comfortable, light weight & just fun to skate on. My only complaint is that these skates do not like to go backwards! I'm playing a bit of D and they can be a little tough to get going backwards on. Either that or I just think I used to be faster. But that's just me. I'm toying with the idea of messing with the rocker (Tuuk Blades to match my old CCM's), but need to research it more.

My advice to you is to give them a chance. If you have business that takes you away from skating, come back and try the Graf's again. Then I'd mess with rocker. It's my opinion you won't find a more comfy boot, so maybe you need a different blade.

I'm interested to know shawn's comparisons of the g5 and vector 10 after skating the ultra's for awhile.

I can say my vector to 705 differences were narrower midfoot and wider heel in the 705. slight changes, but enough to make a difference. the mid foot on the vectors was plenty wide, I worried about them getting sloppy over time. also the heel on the vectors was too narrow, 705's feel great.

as far as I can tell the graf that fits closest to a vector is the 735/G35. the slight difference in fit to the 705 was just what I needed!

Now, and this is important!, I want to know how the 705 and g5ultra are different!?

g5 would be lighter, yes. moisture wicking liner stays light , yes. the main thing I want to know is, are the g5ultra's stiff around the eyelets like the vector or soft around the eyelets like a 705???

Please Help!?

i just went from vector 7s to 735s. the 735s heel is much more narrow. i could feel my heels move just a little in the vectors...the 8ks i tried were even worse.

I've always found the CCM fit the best for me for comfort and for great balance. Tried Grafs before as well. Had them for about six to eight months. Comfort not an issue. On the ice stance however is another mattter. Just couldn't get used to being on my toes all the time with that forward lean. They where great quality skates and I ended up selling them to a buddy of mine in my men's league. Ended up getting a pair of Reebok 8K's and just love the fit and the on ice feel. In retrospect I guess I could have put a set of E-Blades on the Grafs but I was picking up the Reeboks for less than my buddy offered me for the Grafs so it worked out great for me.If I ever get Grafs again I'll put a set of E-Blades on them or have the Cobras contoured to the CCM blade contour because that's the perfect one that works for me. Graf is a great quality skate. I'd highly recommend them to anyone.

735 - G35 good for the narrow heel, with a wider foot. They do retain sweat causing extra weight. Depending on # of games or practices in a day or time between, you will need a heater to dry em out for next skate. Heard the G5 Ultra lining is like One90. Quick drying.
