Poker Question

Recommended Posts

I'd definitely consider myself a Hold 'Em rookie...I have a question about the ranking of hands...

Heads Up...Let's say...

2 players both make an identical Full House...(both are using 1 card from their hand and 4 from the table). One player has a higher card in their hand than the other...which is also higher than any of the cards that make up the FH. That card isn't used to decide the hand because it is other than the 5 cards that make a poker hand...so it would be a split pot, right?

I think I'm describing it correctly.

split plot, because only 5 cards count

In Hold 'Em, the best 5 cards play. You don't need to use either cards in your hand.

In Omaha, you need to use 2 cards from your hand and 3 from the board.

if you have the exact same hand, you take the other card that didnt make up the full house and whoever has the higher card wins (the kicker). if that other card you have is in the community it doesn't really count. otherwise, THEN it is a split pot.

Wouldn't that be using 6 cards? The "kicker" is only in play if it is one of the 5 cards you are using to make your hand...isnt' it???

not if you both have a 5 card hand (stright, flush, full house, sf, rf). Kickers are only used when you have the same hand using 4 cards or less.

Like Lego said, The best 5 cards win. If you both have the same best five cards, its a split pot. the kicker only counts in hands like 2 pair, something smaller then 5 cards.
