RBK 9k Skates or Bauer One90?

Recommended Posts

I am lookong at getting a new pair of skates. I am currently wearing Bauer 8000 and have really always had Bauers. I have tried on both the 9k's and One90's. My question is with regard to the durability of the air bladder in the 9k's and for opinions on either skate?

Thanks,

Thomas

well, might as well chime in too... I've had both the 5K Pump, and the 9K... no issues with the pump on either pair. I had the 5K for about a year. I just got my 9K's about a month ago.

I have 9k's, I wish would of got one90's instead. Go with one90's depending if your foot fits in them. I had no problems with 9k's tho.

Anthony,

You said somewhere in another post you were a bigger guy and had the 5K's and they were too soft. How do the 9K's compare now that you've had them a while? I'm Definitely concidering getting a pair of 9's Soon, but contemplating plain black, or get the new Whites :D Also, I might post this as a new topic, how do you think they would compare to the original CCM 1052 Custom Lites?

I tried the search and got no results (probably not doing it right). Even though I have always had Bauers my current 8000's are hurting my ankles (I have pronounced ankle bones on the inside and outside). I was wanting to see if the 9k's would be better.

Thanks,

Thomas

I'd try on the Baurs and just wear them in the store for a while, see how they feel. Many people don't give a test fit enough time, a major flaw of internet sales. I have the 5k pumps for a few months now, no problems.

Went from 7000s to One90 to Ovy V10 SE....tried the 9k and was a little to wide in the heel, and the . If you were used to a bauer, try the 9K in a C width if you can find one.

the 9K is a much stiffer boot...I don't feel like they're too soft for someone my size, who is learning no less. The plus to the 9k is the boot is in fact real stiff... but it lacks the bulky ankle padding most top of the line boots have- the pump lets you inflate to fit.

I actually went from 5k to 8k to 9k... I still have the 8ks.

What people don't realize is that the 5k is a VERY SOFT skate. Also, plastic outsole. If you want a mid-range Pump skate, you want the 7K Pump, not the 5K.

Okay, I should rephrase...

The 5k is not a comparable skate spec-wise to others at the $250 price point. Most other mfgrs have better spec at that price point.

I agree 110%... it was basically my 2nd pair of skates ever. They felt great the first few skates... but softened up to the point where as a beginner- I didn't feel comfortable lacking the stiffness. Someone who is a little more skilled, with better ankle strength- I'd say it's a good buy.

Thanks for the comments. I is dificult for me to go and try on skates because the pro shop at the rink doesn't stock the top end skates and the closest LHS is 180mi north or 190mi south away. the one to the south is where my girlfriend lives but they never seem to be open during the hours that they post on the door. Maybe I will be able to get this settled when i am in Dallas for the All-Star game.
