What To Do With My Gloves

Recommended Posts

I bought these gloves about a year ago, and have used them for about a full season of ice hockey so far, and a summer of roller hockey. Unfortunately, I ripped these up when I got tripped playing roller hockey and many of the plastic inserts have falled out, and one of the split fingers even lost a full foam piece. I was wondering your opinions on whether it is safe to still use these, as people have told me its nothing to worry about, but others have siad it is a horrible idea to keep using these.

I took some picture for you guys to see, I have uploaded 4:

Do you guys know if I can find a place to fix this up for me (is it even worth it?) or should I just buy new gloves (as my palms are all crusty anyway)

well if one of your fingers lost a full foam piece what are you gonna do if you get nailed right in that spot with a puck? Not to mention that you said lots of plastic inserts have fallen out.

Time for new gloves.

If it was me I'd get new gloves ASAP. I played with lighter, less protective cloth gloves for a while. After a few times of getting my fingers slashed I switched to some more protective synth leather gloves.

If you still have the plastic/foam that fell out, just put it back in and reconstruct the shell with some black tape. I've done that with some gloves and it's worked fine.

Well, if you like them a lot, you can try and get them fixed.

I have a pair of old coopers with similar wear in the right hand glove, I took a photo and emailed it to http://greatsaves.org/hockey.htm

The guy responded and said it would be around $50 (for one glove), but since they were pretty old and a low end model to begin with, I might as well buy a new pair. So I ended up using some hockey tape to repair mine before I got my new set of gloves.

It took him a couple days to get back to me, but it was worth getting an estimate i guess.

I know there is another thread on here about equipment repairs and some highly recommended shops.

With a high end set of gloves like that, it might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the input so far. Since I guess this means I will probably be getting new gloves in the near future, I was just curious if the One90 gloves have plastic inserts becasue I couldn't really tell from any of the pictures. I also was curious if I wear a 13" Vapor XXX glove and they fit very well, if I should get a 13" One90 as well, or try a 14" as I like the glove to be a little loose fitting and I want these to last as I grow more.

if you like loose fitting, don't get the one90s.

I'm not necesarily opposed to a tighter fit, I just don't think I have ever tried it. Also, I saw someone else post that they switched from a loose fit glove to the One90s and it didn't matter to them. How big a jump is it to use a tight fit compared a loose one?

The palm is what I am most excited about, as well as protection. I don't what anything falling out again.

using any glove for roller hockey on asphalt or pretty much any other outdoor surface will cause the shell to break and parts will fall out. It's not the glove's fault that parts fell out.

As far as the switch to a tighter glove, You'll feel restricted at first, but within a few skates most people get used to it. Still, you'll have a preference either way.

How could you do this to a glove? Especially a XXX glove!!

did you read?

asphalt, or outdoor hockey....it usually does that to gloves

"I ripped these up when I got tripped playing roller hockey "

I think it was more of a lament than a question...

I had an old pair of Bauer 3000 gloves in a 14" before I went to the One90's. Went for a 15" in the end as the One90's are a tighter fit. So I had to go up one size. The 15" fits well for me as I prefer a loose fit round the cuff, its a more snug fit round the hand but I like the feel. At the end of the day its down to personal choice.

Hope this helps

How have the one90's been holding up, and are they as big a difference as some people say compared to more traditional gloves like Eagles or Bauer XX (for tight fit comparison) in feel?

tried on a pair of One90s in my LHS today. Didn't mind they were tight, but the top of the inside of the gloves (when you put your hand in teh gloves, i'm talking about teh part that is on the top of your hand and fingers) felt like some piece of fabric was missing as it hurt my hand and felt like it was going to cut my knuckles. I also tried on my friends one90s (same size as the ones in the store), and the tops felt fine, only thing was a little stitching that rubbed against my pinky. Not sure why these are so different. Maybe a manufacturer defect.
