Heat molding skates

Recommended Posts

Given my frustration with my ankle (malleolar bursitis) skate bite issue, I thought I would experiment and do a little home heat molding. I know enough not to use the oven.

What I ended up doing was holding my skate upside down over the steam from a pot of boiling water so that the ankle pads would get softer (I had the boiling water already since I was molding my mouthpiece).

I know it's after the fact; but is 5 minutes over steam going to hurt anything in the long run?

Thanks in advance

Whats wrong with the oven?

-I don't fit inside of it so I am not able to rotate the skates the way I like. : )

(Seriously though-I don't trust myself with an at home oven-and I really only need to soften up the ankle pads; everything else on the skate fits perfectly).

I tried the problem skate on today and feels great (skate itself is still stiff). I still have a bit of tenderness on the ankle bone so I am debating on playing tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

Given my frustration with my ankle (malleolar bursitis)

I don't know what exactly this is. If it involves one spot on your ankle that the boot irritates I would suggest getting the skate "punched out" at a LHS. The person can typically give you a little room by expanding the skate in one specific spot.

If this is not the problem then disregard. :)
