If I had to choose between the Cascade and Hefter Evolution, Id definitely go for the Evolution...'nuff said

i thought the revolution was just a prototype and was never actually a made helmet

on epinions.com, a guy tested it and said that the Vector doesnt have the Zorbium liner that is supposed to be revolutionary, I am just gonna wait until the first helmet with Zorbium comes out, cause I've had two concussions so far... and they are not fun :blink:

Is this the same guy who "wore" the actual hefter? Nothing like reviewing a helmet that doesn't exist. You are going to be waiting a long time. Zorbium and certification don't go well together.

Actually Ryan, he did not test the helmet. He did his buddy a favor by hyping up the product. A helmet was NEVER made. The helmet at the show was a soft shell and under a glass case.

Also, Zorbium was tried by CCM, but its protective properties are weak - the amount of Zorbium needed for the helmet to pass HECC would have required about 2" of padding.

right now i have the Bauer 8500 with Itech titanium cage and always wear a custom fit mouthguard, so anything thats scientifically proven to help reduce concussions I'll go for...

Then why are you using the 8500 and the Ti cage? Neither of them have been scientifically proven to prevent concussions.

but, still, they have been proven to REDUCE concussions, and technically its not the best thing for me to even be playing contact sports, so I mean I'll take all the help I can get *shrug*

yeah, I'm pretty good bout keeping my head up, thing is I'm 5'5'' and 116 lbs, playing bantam AA with bigger kids, so...haha

No they haven't. The helmet has been promoted as doing that but those claims have never been backed up. The EPP does work to reduce high speed impacts but does little at low speeds. Add to that the fact that every impact compresses the EPP more and more makes the helmets less protective.

Wait a while and I'll have a helmet for you.

He needs to do a lot of work on that thing.

Yeah the consensus is that it is heavy. Might come out with a plastic version of it. But the foam's what is good about it.

It's also not going to fit a lot of people. Wedging an extra insert in around your head isn't a great solution. The foam itself is nice but it's a bit warm too.

i think you're confusing EPP with EPS.

they're both quite similar, except EPP has the distinct property that it DOES expand back into the same shape after an impact.

EPS is the 'one time' foam that does not expand back into it's original shape after an impact. this foam is used most widely in bicycle helmets.

it's pretty difficult to tell the difference unless it is labeled as either.

The foams used in most new helmets is not as good at reducing concussions as VN in my opinion and I have yet to see any study that disputes that.

It sounds to me that Ryan understands that NO helmet will PREVENT concussions so lets understand that the goal is to REDUCE concussions in contact sports. There is and will never be a miracle helmet that will prevent concussions.

I tried on the Cascade helmet in Toronto. When I put the helmet on securely, the side foam just above the ear pieces came down so low that it crushed my ears! The side foam was pushing against my ears instead of having a clear clean fit like every other helmet I have ever tried or worn. My partner had the same exact experience when he put the Cascade helmet on. The rep looked astonished when he heard our reaction with this problem. When Jim had the helmet on I could see where his ears were being a bit crushed. Jim and I looked at each other with the "this is crazy" look. Over the next day, I heard that only one other dealer had this experience when he put the helmet on. That dealer was Canadian. So there are three people in North America that this helmet does not fit. That said, based on this I'll take a pass on the helmet for my shop until I see and try on more finished final product that does not give me this problem. The rest of the helmet was comfortable and fit well. But any one problem in fit is not acceptable for a helmet to sell at retail. During my illustrious playing career, I have worn the Winnwell 2000, CCM HT 2, and now the Mission Intake helmets without ever having a helmet come down and push too low against my ears.
