CCM Vector Micro-Site

Recommended Posts

Hi folks.

Have you seen CCM's new microsite promoting their Vector skates, helmets, gloves and sticks? There is a decent level of detail and pics. It also has an Ovechkin hockey 101 flash demo that's useless.

http://en.ccmsports.com/vector/

CCM holds a special spot in my heart because I learned to skate using their equipment and was a Tacks guy most of my hockey life. Now I'm afraid Tacks have been retired and it would seem good old CCM is losing relevance with the young bucks.

Some of this equipment looks okay, but I'm afraid my CCM loyalties have long since passed. Not to mention my preferred LHS isn't stocking much of anyting CCM.

I have to agree with you JJ. They have been bragging up a "new" website for a while, and I think that mini-site thing is kind of cheesey. There has been alot of discussion there about the fact that they are "selling out" the Tacks lineup, and most are not happy. In fact they deleted a thread where people were kind of questioning the whole thing. It started off with a little bashing of the new helmet and logo and then was gone. I do like the look of the new helmet, BTW.

Those are some very nice looking gloves, depending on fit and feel they may challenge my being set on NBH One90s or the Pro 4-Roll.

I used to adore CCM due to their tradition and originality. Since they've been bought by RBK things have changed. This is not the company it used to be. It's a $ machine that lowers production costs / quality by affiliating with Reebok in Asia, cutting down customer service (phone support only), and raising prices to a ridiculous level.

Interesting info Chief. I took a stroll over to the CCM forum where I was a semi-active member a couple of years ago. Looks like nothing changed. I thought a topic on the logo change was conspicious by it's absense...now I know why.

RBK is cranking out quality goods, so not much room for CCM I'm afraid.

I would imagine something like this being a regular occurance at their headquarters:

CCM Tech Guy: "I have a great idea, let's add <<insert benefit X here>> to our equipment."

RBK Executive: "Great idea, but we'll put that on the RBK line."

I must add that in said forum thread, the CCM forum rep told us that the company did a survey to determine which logo to use in the future. The people asked by CCM were age 13-18! I know there are a lot of young guys browsing these forums, and I am not that much older... so no offense, but that kind of survey is flatout ridiculous. A survey is suppossed to deliver a broad picture of the general market situation. So they aim their products at people that (again, in general) do not even work for some hard earned money. That is telling you a lot about a "traditional" company...

Ya I remember, you had alot of good info and insightful posts when you were there. I kinda miss that. It is too bad they don't set their forum up like everyone else does(this one for example). It seems lately all there is there are young kids who want to talk about Ovechkin. There are still a few guys there who post good stuff on a regular basis but they are going quickly. Oh well sorry for the sob story...

In some ways they are a better company with RBK in charge. Did you know that CCM was on the block to be sold for the last 10 + years? As far Asian manufacturing goes, all the companies produce product in Asia. Some even lease time in the same factories!! As far as raising prices, I cannot speak to prices in Germany or Europe, but all the major vendors have kept their key price point products in line, dollar for dollar for over the last 7 to 10 years. This is something nobody gives the vendors any credit for. Your upper end pro model product will alwasy cost more and get more expensive. That is where the R D & D money goes. The low-end to medium price point protective and skates are better values now than they were over 10 years ago. You get a hell of a lot more skate now for $200 in mens senior sizing than was the case 10 years ago.
