Question about heat guns for blade replacement

Recommended Posts

I usually have my LHS change blades for me, but the owner recently hasn't been around much and the kids working don't take time to install blades properly (they don't make sure the glue spreads or stays on the hosel, and they don't clean up the fuse point)

I started using my girlfriend's hair drier. It might take an extra minute, but I can basically heat the fuse point, hold the blade and let gravity pull the shaft off most times, so I know it's getting warm enough.

So whats better torch or stove top? I'm way too lazy for blowdryer and I hardly change blades

I've always used the stove. One of my son's stick was torched by a coach, the end was scorched and became brittle.

If you are really careful with the torch it's probably fine. The biggest problem with the stove top method is portability. They don't quite fit in your bag. :D

I was actually wondering that myself, when I tape my stick for the first time I like to do it in the locker room but I need something to melt the wax into the tape... tired(and I'm sure they are tired of it too) of walking to the pro shop to borrow their heat gun and work bench.

I have an old Wagner paint stripper heat gun I use to change blades and use the electric stove when I need to take a blade out of an OPS, the extra heat makes the process easier.
