Cut the balde off a woodie for a shaft?

Recommended Posts

I lost my balace in my game last night and caught my self on my easton wood stick and cracked the shaft.

Think i could saw the balde off and cut it down to fit in a standard shaft?

Or will that make something awkward?

If you think it could work, could someone measer the diamter of a blade hosel and give me the measurement i should shoot for?

also, i have never bought a shaft before, what else do i need? A glue gun and a heat gun?

Thanks!

If you buy the shaft at your LHS they usually fit blades and extensions for you

I don't have a blade or extension on hand that's not in a stick to let you know the measurements

If you buy online, you'll need a heat gun/hairdryer/other heat source to melt some hot glue onto the hosel, heat up the shaft to expand it to better accept the hosel, and keep the glue tacky while you insert the hosel.

I don't know if it will work, but blades are as cheap as $15 if you go for just a chunk of wood if you end up scrapping the woodie.

If you cut the hosel too small, you can use a piece of tape to make it a bit bigger.

Make sure you put more glue at the top to allow it to be pushed over the length of the hosel, and if it gets stuck, don't heat it more and force it in,, you might split the shaft.

Just buck up and pay a little extra money for a shaft and blade... you get what you pay for, it's just not a good idea

I wouldn't waste my time. It will probably break or go soft soon anyway since it was already being used. Wood blades aren't expensive enough to go through the trouble.

Actually the bigger problem that there would be no reinforcement in the new tenon and it will snap pretty quickly.

that was partly what I meant when I said "it will probably break." Thanks for the clearification because I obviously didn't state why it would break other than because it's been used.

I have a few sops I broke in the shaft and I want to use there blades for a stick. It's a tapered shaft tho so it might not work well. I'll see how it goes.
