Smyth's New Stick?

Recommended Posts

He made a minimum number, oilers never matched it. Why should he sign if they don't value him enough to go an extra 100k. IMO he will probably sign the contract with the oilers in the offseason for what he asked for if not alittle more. Oilers got very little for him except for the pick, both the prospects are nothing more than future 3rd/4th liners.

Back on topic, the shaft looks awesome and both teams have pretty much the same colors.

Conversely, if his heart was in Edmonton, why does 100K make a difference? Do you know anything about investments? 100k per year - in the scope of 5.5 vs 5.4 - over 5 years is minimal when you do the right things with your money. He could've made it work if he wanted to. Again, stop kidding yourself. And I don't even know why I care for that matter....all greedy athletes are pretty much worthless to the world.

But yeah, back on topic - the Moo-lay should be quite the sought after geek collector's piece.

Why should he always be the one to make the sacrifice? He's taken less money from them than he would have gotten elsewhere before. He makes a stand and they didn't give him that piece of mind. For the organization 100K isn't anything, for a player it's something... not just the money but the piece of mind that they are willing to go the extra effort to keep him in town.

If he sees his open market value as $6M+, then $5.5M is a hometown discount. In his mind he has already dropped his price $500K+ and he set a minimum that he wasn't willing to go below. With his toughness and leadership he should command more than $5.5M on the open market.

is it just me or are his holders a brighter blue then before?

No, it's not just you! He switched to the old-colour blue holders for the Messier night since the Oil were going to wear their vintage blue uniforms. They actually wore them against Phoenix that night and again on Saturday against the Flames. Seeing those old colours looked awesome in my opinion!
