expensive gloves

Recommended Posts

do you buy the high end gloves? like hte buaer xxx cost 140 bucks. in the past ive always bought the high end equipment but it seems like the price of gloves is a lot more now than the last time i bought gloves which was a couple years ago. and high end gloves seem to offer negligible gains for almost double the price of the mid level gloves.

If you look around, you can get XXX's for less than $100 shipped. However, I think the problem stems from the fact that expensive sells. There will be a point where one company will price something so out of whack that it will bite them in the ass, but we haven't reached it yet. One90 sticks, gloves, and skates are all selling well as well as Eagle gloves, Stealth sticks, and the RBK 8K helmet. There will always be a "boutique" market, but with the costs of travel hockey increasing, things are inflating at a rate where it is all relative.

If you saw the post on how gloves are made you might see that in some cases it is worth it. There's a good deal of labor that goes into a pair of gloves.

That labor goes into all gloves though, not just expensive ones. They're not easy equipment to make. I don't think the price of gloves is that much more now than it has been in the past, though. My current gloves were upper-mid-end (if that makes sense) gloves about 5 years ago, and I spent about $100 on them.

MIA gloves are retailing for 169-179 and i think there worth every penny. Probably the most comfortable glove ive ever put on and i like how the company thinks. They dont want to open up every dealer with MIA because as of right now they have a 3 week turn around on all their custom products (gloves, bags, shells, etc). So being very selective as to who carries their products allows them to keep their 3 week turn around. So once again, sometimes gloves are worth every penny!!

Gloves have remained consistent in cost over the last few years. The top end gloves have been up over $100 dollars. Back when The Vaughn 3500's came out they retailed for around $135. They were also all leather.

I think it also depends on how picky you are. If you want everybody to know that you have top of the line gear-since your gloves are showing ;)

I have never bought top of the line gloves, I dont see the need. Ive always stuck with TPS gloves and they havnt priced to high lately. Sure your XXX's or Wicked Lite gloves might be a little bit lighter and have the flashy colors but its not worth an extra $60 to me.

Not to mention the R&D that goes into the more ergonomically sound gloves jacks the price way up as well. The hand is a pretty intricate structure and it's a lot more than simply putting nylon or leather over some foam.
