Old Griplite vs New

Recommended Posts

I recently sold my M-2(85 flex, too whippy for me) shaft to a team-mate, so I went to my LHS to buy a replacement.

My LHS always has a "bin" of closeout shafts for $45, and the owner ussually will give them to me for $40.

Anyway, I was going back and forth on buying an Ak27($99), a new(as in '06) UL(the white one) or Griplite(the red one).

But, I settled on an older green Griplite, 100 flex. $40 vs $75-79 seemed to be too good of a deal.

My question: is there a big diff. in the newer UL's and the older ones(other than the grip on the GL's)?

Has there been any improvements or modifications on the UL/GL line over the years that would justify the price difference? Thanks.

I don't work for a shop but I can presume that the price diff is for the "new" paint job. You got a great deal on a good shaft.

I have read on the board that the older UL's were better than the new models.

The old sparkly-green Ultra Lite was one of the best shafts ever made. What a stick, good lookin out if you got one.

Well this one is more of an Army green color than "sparkly-green".

The new Ultra Grips, and new Ultra Lites for that matter, blow. You have one of the most durable sticks in creation for $40. The grip is better, but bear in mind that it may be a little stiffer than 100.

I was afraid of that. I actually found one hidden in a corner, I told the owner I would've bought it, but it was 110 flex. So he told me to wait a second, and he came out the back with a 100 flex still in wrapped in plastic. I don't know if he has some secret stash or what, but he has all kinds of cool stuff tucked in various corners.

For that price I'd clear out his stash. I saw a pack of those just go out on eBay but had to resist.

Earlier this year he had 3 of the older green Z-bubble shafts. At the time I wasn't in a position to buy any new sticks, but I was hoping they would've hung around a little longer.

I hate going in there sometimes because it always makes me want to buy stuff I don't need.

Actually, let me re-phrase that, my WIFE hates when I go in there...

I really haven't found the newer Ultra Lites (green/white of recent years) to be any different than prior UL's (brown) in terms of durability, feel, and performance

The old green grip-lites had a different grip coating to them, which personally I thought was better. The newer ones, aside form the grip, feel the same to me.
